Merely an observation that those who teach something that all of us are bound by, and must make oaths to carry out their duties, are like the priests of any religion. How is that offensive?

Second, my name is discoverable, even on this forum. You had no trouble with it when I wrote you check a few years back for appraising my son's condo unit. So if you want to know who I am, get off your backside and do a little homework.

No real offense. But, with the many levels of intelligence that reads this forum on a continual basis, and may believe what is written about USPAP, I believe you are denegrating the profession by calling USPAP a religion and it's instructors priest. It is a set of standards. Every profession has a set of standards. I doubt that the code of ethics the Realtoirs adhere to would be called a religion, or the canons of ethics that the AI live by would be called a religion. Religion is very important to many of us. Religion is part of our lives. It is not our work. I am not worthy to be a priest of any religion as I suffer from the frailty of being prone to making mistakes, errors, and even sin when it comes to things of religion.

I know who you are, and I also appreciate the referral to appraise your son's condo lo those many years ago. I believe I did express my appreciation at the time, and as I recall you believed that I did a good job. If I had a relative in your area I would feel inclined to return the favor.

I take great pains and make a concerted effort to keep abreast of USPAP, it's changes, and what it is about and what it really means and says, not what others believe it to be. I have not had much opportunity to teach the subject in recent years as online or distance education has eliminated most live classes. However, I do have a good reputation among my peers. I have been asked by a statewide organization of appraisers to teach the 7 hour course at their annual conference this fall. These are not independent fee appraisers, they are public servants. I am honored that they have asked. Since they are public servants, and serve us all in my state, I am doing the course pro bono.

Most of my work in USPAP application is as an expert witness for those appraisers who find themselves in trouble with a state regulatory agency or a lender. The pay is not great but the work is rewarding. I don't accept pay in chickens and eggs but several have paid with resturaunt gift cards.:icon_mrgreen:

I hope my comments are not offensive to you. I respect you, but would ask that you define USPAP in some other way, and this lowly instructor in some other way.
