Have been using outlook for mail forever, '07 will no longer be serviced and looking into other providers; any recommendations ??

Get Office 2016. Its fairly cheap, no learning curve. Your old outlook data transfers right in. No import / export hassles. They eliminated the .pst file though, so if you are automatically backing up the outlook database, you'll have to change your file selection.

Have been entertaining the idea of gmail, which I found to be similar in many aspects, perhaps a slight learning curve

There is a pretty good email / contact / task client very similar to Outlook that I used for a while called EM Client. In some aspects its indistinguishable from outlook, but its very difficult to sync with smart-phones, or exporting contacts ec. That is what ultimately sent me back to Outlook. My recommendation: Save yourself a bunch of grief and just buy the new Office Suite.

In your opinion.
In my experience. I often have to try several times before it will attach a file. My CPA has to email attachments to my satellite address because outlook/hotmail won't allow me to open it. Constantly telling me a site isn't trusted when I am dealing with parties that have .jpg logos on their emails, even the state website to renew car tags is suspicious??. And I absolutely despise the way all emails try to read every other email address you have.

Don't tell me AOL email is the "go to" mail program? :)

I have none of those problems. Suggest you look at your settings.
