USPAP question regarding license renewal

Having taken the update early this year myself and discovering after the start of the class that it was a "2006" update, it was explained that the "2008" update was not required until after March 2008. Something about giving the instructors time to prepare for the new update. I guess that was code for "give you guys a chance to get rid of the '2006' course materials before we require that you start teaching the 'new' update."

And I had to take the update prior to the end of Feb in order to renew a license, so I couldn't back out of the course and take a later one, although that option was given.

All that is true, but, I am not sure that the material was available from TAF until well into this year.

I took the 2008 during the first half of February.

Wonder if you got a poor instructor who did not download the new materials????

Depending on the course provider, the material may not have been available until well into the year.

Some course providers insist on using their own material rather than just using the national course material. In such cases those providers have new material later in the year because before it can be presented the course has to go through AQB review to make sure it is equivalent.

Few make it through review on the first try, which also causes delays.

I am not taking a shot at you AQB guys. Its tough out there for everyone, even for you. So called students who read newspapers in class, or sleep, or listen to a Ipod! Having said that;

Do you all see the irony in this? :rof:

One time, I had to take a USPAP course before I could renew, but I thought I didn't have to until the following year(this was when I was new and had just taken the 14 hours USPAP course and thought it was good for two years--but anyway) At any rate, I ran out of time and it wasn't offered in SC before the deadline. They told me as long as the provider was approved and the course was approved that everything would be fine. I did and it was. I used McKissock in Jacksonville, Fla. and had a great instructor and learned a ton.

I think it must vary state by state.

PS, take it from me and don't wait until the last minute to renew.

Danny,

Thanks. I forgot that some want to use their own materials and get them approved.

Don,

I know for sure this was available very early in the year at the latest. Not, of course, any proprietary stuff done by a private school wishing to use their own materials- but if that instructor was simply using TAF materials, it was certainly available for download before that course. I procrastinated for weeks before my downloading.

Further I note that FL allowed the time extension but our poster is in CA and I do not know if CA had an extension- never checked since I always use the most current materials available.

I now take it on-line. I can be bored at the office or at home just as easily as at some classroom...and for less.

I have never had a trouble finding one course that MD, DC and VA (the jurisdictions in which I practice) all accept.

There was no lag on the materials this year. I received the 2008 materials as of mid-December of 2007 and I first started teaching the 2008 version in January.
