VA Appraisals Great Again

At last count I had 30+ rods and that includes those I use to fish for species other than bass. I have three fly rods, 4 trolling rods, and 4 2pc rods I carried to Canada for a fly-in for pike mostly. The rest are used for bass fishing and include both casting and spinning rods. When I'm on my 17' Bass Tracker I have 6 rods on the deck and the additional two would be set up for top water and a spinner bait.

That doesn't mean I carry that many all the time. When I am fishing as a co-angler (non-boater) I prefer to have four but sometimes will carry six. Will be fishing a team event on the 25th and because of the time of the year I will just have four. 3 bait cast and 1 spinning for drop shot. Baitcasters with be set up for jerk bait, plastic worm, and a jig. Just changed line on everything.

We don't eat bass UNLESS we happen to accidentally kill one. I prefer walleye and consider it the best eating fresh water fish. Crappie is good but you need a mess of them to make a meal most of the time. We used to eat trout but now really don't care for it. I used to like to smoke salmon but don't do that anymore either. Most of the fish we eat comes from the super market.

Bass fishing is a sport. It's catch and release and that's the way it should be...at least here where there aren't that many.

You sound like my brother in law. Bass is all he fishes for. His daddy is a crappie fisherman year around. My brother in law loves the bass but also robs his daddy's freezer on a fish fry.

My brother in law duck hunts in the winter. His daddy keeps fishing for crappie spring summer fall winter. Lol

My brother in law is serious about the bass. He can see them underwater. He even has glasses that help him. I'm like I can't see that fish. He had his glasses on and says watch this. He is right there. He can see it hit it. He sets that hook too. Lol

All he uses is spinning reels. When I was young, the bass fisherman I was around used open face bait casting reels. He only uses spinning reels.

It's quite common out here for bass fishermen to use spinning rods as much of the fishing is finesse. The latest and quite effective technique is called "The Ned Rig". Spinning rod, very light line (4# to 8#), a light jig head (1/8 oz to 1/32 oz), and a plastic worm that's from 2" to 4". Very slow presentation...almost dead stick.

Sight fishing works mostly when the bass are on the beds. I can see them sometimes but my vision isn't the best and it's usually easier for me to just see the beds.

Yeah. We were on about a 30 acre private lake. He was casting to the bank in shallow water. He can't see them in deep water like he fishes on Kentucky Lake, except with a depth finder. And then don't know what they are. He just knows they are fish or something then. Lol

He sure ain't Jesus saying cast the net on the other side. He thinks he is though.:rof:

Him and Bill Dance both. Lol
