That would be nice!
I just set up wintotal in another computer....it was really nice having my preferences and contacts transfered smoothly :o )

Tiger Direct.com just had a huge sale on extrenal hard drives and their prices are typically half the amount of the average online stores and retailers. :-) I buy a lot of pc goodies from them.

Ever had a house fire? Call me paranoid, but every appraisal I have ever done is in the safe deposit box at my bank. Sure, it requires you to take a few minutes, each month, week, what ever, and back up what you have done for that time period. And, as my bank is just 1/2 mile from my home, I just stop by and put my back up copy in the safe deposit box. I also use that time to visit with the mortgage dept, some of the ladies in the bank, and do a little networking.

I think the vault would be great for your most recent stuff, but my old stuff is all at the bank. Of course I still have my paper copies elsewhere, but my actual software and copies of my appraisals are in the vault at the bank. Makes me sleep like a baby. :)

So you have one copy of Wintotal on 2 different computers? Is it totally functional - mapping, scetching, etc? I've been told I can't do that with my husband's computer.

Several Computers

I have my Wintotal on my desktop, my laptop, and my wife's desktop in the next room.

I use my desktop to work on. My laptop as a backup, which I transfer all my reports to, via my in house network. My wife's desktop just has the program, in case the other 2 crash.

They all function fine, except for the drawing program. I have 2 different versions of Apex, the most recent on my desktop, and an older version on my laptop.

Good luck,
Rick

thanks Rick. Do you have Athena or Aurora installed? Did you have to purchase additional apex licenses? They let you keep your old sketch program on one and you purchased a new license for the other?

Old stuff

Well, unfortunately I'm still running Athena. None of my computers seem to be new enough to run Aurora.

And, yes I have 2 licenses for Apex. I used to have a trainee, and I had purchased one for him. So, I put the old version on my lap top, and the newer version on my main computer.

I was waiting until they got all the bugs out of the Aurora software, and I purchased my laptop while I was waiting. Later, they changed their recommendations as to RAM size for optimum performance and my new laptop doesn't have enough RAM. I haven't gotten around to upgrading the RAM because I would also have to upgrade all my computers.

So, I'm just an old **** using old software. :)

Rick

Sorry, I didn't know that f_ _ t was a bad word. Guess we now have auto-bleep.

I'm an old F**t too. :rof: :rof:

I still use Athena. Only have 1 Gig of RAM and it locks up sometimes. I can imagine what would happen with Aurora. I'll be working on a report and all the sudden the form starts turning white and going nuts. I have to shut it down every time.

I may see about putting it on my husbands computer. It would be nice to have help sometimes.

:)

I haven't yet use Auroa on the second computer....I think I will give it a try soon to make sure it is fully functional when I need it..but I don't store files there.... I store the reports on my computer, on the vault, and on an external drive....I do have a fireproof safe at home I could place the external drive in...

WinTotal's EULA (End User License Agreement) says that you can have 2 installs of WinTotal at any given time under 1 primary license. You just can't use them both "at the same time" unless 1) You have purchased 2 licenses or 2) they are networked from one single install and the second "install" is run across the network.

In fact, when I was going around with ala mode on this topic, they said I could run as many across a single network install as I wanted (We just do 2 - myself and my secretary). And that I could also put a "copy" on a laptop or second desktop that was used away from the office (primary licensed install) so long as the 2 installs were not being used at the same time - that having 2 non-networked installs of WinTotal running at the same time without the proper licenses, was against the EULA (and EULAs amount to intellectual property rights laws).

Of course, you can actually "use" 2 separate installs at the same time without a 2nd license, it would just be illegal, and you'd need a second license of a sketcher if you wanted to sketch with the bootleg install. How far anyone pushes that is up to them.

edit: Forgot to mention, making a network is simple, requires only a NIC (network interface card) and cheap router to make function. If you use broadband internet, you already have a NIC, and routers are <$40 at Wal Mart. To "install" WinTotal on a 2nd machine across the network, just go to the computer where it is installed via the network and try to run it. It will then "install itself" to the 2nd computer.
