No and No.

In fact, if it is gas, the fireplace is a safety hazard. Fall asleep with that thing on, you'll meet your Master. It HAS TO BE VENTED!!!

Don't forget about gas stoves and ovens. Plenty of nat. gas uses without venting.

Gotta love happy hour

Yeah, more I thought about it, it may not be an issue.

I LOVE my vent less gas insert. We heat the big den with ease and I am glad to never use wood again.

I have probably had this insert for 12+ years with no problems. The next time....I will get the remote control feature.

Do they pump out the same BTUs as as vented FP? Mine (vented gas) cranks out about 45,000

Far more efficient than vented because nothing goes up the flue. I have a very nice, large, brick fireplace with a learge "sitting hearth". The deal I have is open with a mesh screen as on many regular f/ps.

Not sure about the BTUs......just went down to check.....29,000 BTU. Thermostat controlled or manual with a fan which we rarely use. The fan just makes it too hot.

I have a CO2 detector within a few feet.

This was something my deceased brother gave us years ago and as strange as it seems....it means very much to me.
