Ventless Gas Fireplace!

Why would anyone need to detect carbon dioxide?

They are not recomended for bedrooms.

I just had an Empire 24" Loft Series Vent Free unit installed in my existing firebox.

SkU: VFIL-24-LP with clear frost decorative glass. I lose electricity in my neighborhood a few times a year, so this was a nice back up heat source. Remote control is a great feature.

Legal in Cali ?

Lee, I see these all over Carmel, Pacific Grove, Monterey. They are a great addition to these small cottages and the like. I know they are very safe. They must be legal..... or are they?????

Those ventless gas units put out a lot of moisture into the home!

This is true, a by product of combustion is water vapor, but since the humidity is typically low in the winter, it actually makes it more comfortable by increasing the interior humidity, and no more shocks when you touch the door handle when wearing polyester.
