OK,

Got three weird emails yesterday. Two I deleted with attachments because I didn't know the people. The third was from an ngreen@ameriquest.net...It looked suspicious so I didn't open it but I saved it to a disk to scan it. Bingo. The Klez virus was attached. So I removed the disk and threw it away. I scanned the entire system for viruses and I was clean. I get a email today from Norton saying I emailed someone I don't even know or have in my email address book. I scan the system again and it's clean.

So I called a friend that I do have in my email address book and he had an email from me which I told him to delete.

Needless to say, don't open any emails from me.....

Anybody have any ideas on this one...

Ben

I am getting "notice of non delivery" messages (1 /day)

Sometimes it is an ad, sometimes gibberish.

I do not open any attachment without viewing them with KEYVIEW.

It getting worse.

Watch them bytes-ed

Ed,

This one bugged-me out because I didn't open it. I "saved it to disk" and while doing so my anti-virus program detected the Klex virus. I removed the disk from the A drive, threw it away, and immediately scanned my hard drive which came up clean. Still it managed to send out emails to people in my address book. Can't figure that one out.

Ben,

Did you SAVE or Move?

There could be a difference, sure sounds scary.

Ben:

Sorry to hear of your distress...

FWIW I did NOT receive your dreaded attachment...

I am HOPEING that the later text e-mail didn't have any 'additives'.

Sometiems the best of us get bit :(

Ben,

You may not have sent the virus to anybody. Its possible that someone in your circle of friends is doing it without there knowledge and they may have an address book similar to yours.

you can try this site for a checkup:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/s.../start_corp.asp

its free and may be able to spot any trouble.

good luck bud, you need it in this nasty internet world.

I do not know if it still works (as I have not had the need to check lately). But if you forward an email (with the attachment) to uce@ftc.gov they will send you an email reply back (ONLY) if it contains a virus.

Just be careful what you send to the Government

The text only I sent you was clean...I checked the computer on two different anti-virus programs.., and I deleted your email address from my address book ...just in case...it was my computer and it decided to send some more out. Since you didn't get it, I feel much better now. I'm beginning to think it was someone elses computer with my email address in it as Andrew suggested. I'm waiting to see if Frank G got it. I sent him an alert email also.

Andrew. Thanks for the other website. I'll check it out and rescan the computer when when I get back in the office tomorrow.

Ben:

A lot of those nasties pick a random addy from the infected computer and send e-mails on purporting to have been sent from said random addy... I also suspect that is what happened to you...

I would BET that it is a relative or friend rather than your system...

My brother yells at me for leaving my preview pane open... but I am LAZY.

and tend to 86 any quationable emails without ever clicking on em!
