Using scan to sketch with alamode.

Simple 6 sided home.

Attached are the results. Per my very small sample size, it appears to be the IPAD.

IPAD: 996 SQFT. second try 1,025 sqft. 1,049 sqft

Disto: 1,135 sqft.

Iphone: 1,158 sqft. 1,124 sqft, 1,130 sqft.

As you know, total for mobile is a sketch first program...then you do the rest.

I know many are jumping the gun to purchase a ipad with lidar...1. Doesn't have a wide angle rear camera and it appears to be less accurate than the iPhone. 2. Camera sucks.

The only trade off is the larger screen?

I can't believe anyone is even considering not doing their own measurements.

We can't be asked to measure to the 0.1' and at the same time be told to use an ipad to measure a home. Use a tape and a laser. At some point common sense needs to factor into the equation.

Most don't even know you have to calibrate a laser every so often.

The form factor with samsung/android is better.

The iPad, when adding a bedroom is asking for the same data as of the kitchen and baths.

I tried it with an M4 (2022) iPad for the first time last week and am a bit encouraged. The final sketch is shown, then a compilation of three measurements of the same wall. I tried twice with Scan to Sketch. The first time, I couldn't get it to read one corner, so tried deleting a few lines and starting there, but it couldn't combine the two attempts. Apparently, you start from square one if something happens. Then, I did the old fashioned way. Fortunately, I had viewed the aerial photo and new the angle would be an issue, so had my angle measurer along. I was shocked to get to the last segment and be within inches of closing, so haven't lost the old human touch yet.

How can we compete with the licensed appraiser that only has to turn in 3 reports?

How can we compete with the perea appraiser that does not know how to measure a home?

Atleast with scan to sketch, you can do some check points and adjust if need be. With cubi casa, blind leading the blind. You never know if it's the one that is accurate or off by 400 sqft. Hit that value and no one will never know.

There should be a way to tape one or two sides to use as a control for the Lidar to calibrate itself to.

Really? The world will NOT end if you say 33' or 15' or 70'. I use a Disto D5, does just fine.
