What does the title "Chief Appraiser" mean?

I talked to a Chief Appraiser with GAC once. I did a house that was
an extensive remodel, kitchen didn't have countertops. She said that
she wouldn't pay for the appraisal because more than 10% of the
house wasn't finished and I should have stopped. I told her she
was full of stuff. After a heated discussion, she agree to pay my fee
in exchange for her never requesting another appraisal from me again.

I think GAC went belly up.

The Chief is usually the department boss. In some cases, he/she may be the ONLY person in the department. As such, for a lender, he/she will probably do at least a desk review on reports coming from independant appraisers.

Supposedly, it refers to a person who is in charge or responsible for all appraisals that are done for that place. If that place is a AMC, a bank, a mortgage company, an appraisal office, the fhief appraiser is the one who is supposed to keep eye on how the appraisas are done.

I'm glad to hear that a Chief Appraiser is just a person in charge or the department or the only certified or lecensed appraiser in the office. I would hate to think that someone actually got a certification of Chief Appraiser from an association. Some of these guys are really lacking appraisal knowledge.

Chief Appraiser is much like Senior Loan Officer. :rof:

In these times, chief is too vague a term. Past, present and future definitions are needed.

In the past, chief appraiser meant an experienced, respected and competent appraiser running a tight ship.
In the present it means someone monitoring this thread, but not posting.
In the future it will be the guy wearing orange coveralls and ankle bracelets at company picnics.
