I love hearing both the horror stories and the funny things that have happened to us while inspecting, talking to owners, etc.

What was the most strange or nice thing that made you get back in the car and go, WOW?

There are so many of them, lately nearly every inspection has me talking to myself out loud as I drive away, let's see -

A large barn yard size pig that lives in the house and actually uses a litter box. I've heard these creatures have high IQs, but they sure aren't neat, and of course litter box wasn't cleaned prior to my arrival.

There was also the day with a perfect back-drop - dark clouds, rain, thunder, and lightning as I rang door bell. The large door creaked open and standing there was the bride of Frankenstein (literally). As we proceeded into the dungeon (cellar) she proceeded ahead of me looking for the light switch, running her arm along the wall. Suddenly she let out a blood curdling scream (something right out of a Holloywood horror movie) - it made my hair stand on end. I yelled "what's the matter !?" She replied
"Giant Bugs !" - as I shined my flashlight on the wall it was covered with hundreds of those large water-bugs, you know, the ones the size of a large mouse.

A young yuppy couple answer the door and immediately the smell of death (i.e. rotting corpse) overwhelms me to the point I try not to breathe. There was no reaction on their faces whatsoever. It turned out to be their dead cat whose corpse was in the cellar. I found it when I stumbled over something I though was a flat piece of hard cardboard. I kicked it and it went slidding across the concrete floor like a hockey puck. I informed them of the demise of their cat and left cursing and talking out loud.
Their last words to me were "we were wondering what happen to him"

There are more, but I'll leave it at that.

Bobby, you and I should share some beers. We could take turns topping each other for unusual assignments. Where is you geodesic home pictures? No log homes? I just did single wide last month with their metal storage building pushed against the side and a large hole cut between the two. At least they insulated the storage building with sheet cotton. One space heater for the entire home.

As for the original post. My least favorite was the naked man that came to the door. He had razor wire around the top of his 8 foot fence, Hustler magazines everwhere, what looked like a drug lab in one bathroom. That was the fastest I ever inspected a property.

How come it had to be a naked man, it is never a woman.

I appraised a normal home, larger lot, next door they kept a tiger, regularly inspected by the department of health.

Unfortunately, never got to see the tiger, but it was there.

After 18 years of inspections in the NYC area and the Long Island suburbs I have tons of stories.
Here's a quick one a for ya,

On one inspection in the suburbs, the lady of the house disappeared for a while to the upstairs bedroom and then showed up in a skimpy see-through Victoria's Secret type negligee and asked "does this add any value?".
