What Type Of Digital Camera Do You Like?

Any cam with a 37mm thread on the front of lens or an adaptor, can utilize a Sima Wide 0.5x SLS-05 lens. They even have a .4 lens which will fisheye most things. www.simacorp.com

You can get a pix from feet away from the building. Great for tight back yards, urban stores, etc.

I also use the Sony Mavica. I have to say, I love the large screen and heck, it's easy to use!

Fuiji-FinePix, uses AA batteries, with zoom for taking pictures of manufactured homes from several hundred feet from the house. This camera is inexpensive and easy to replace if damaged in the field. Uses xd-picture card, good photo quality, with auto focus and auto flash. It's small enough to fit into your pocket. I carry a back-up xd-card and 100+ batteries. Second trips into the field to retake pictures can be very time consuming and expensive. If I'm out in the country, I always review my pictures to make sure there are no omissions before heading back into town.

I use ACCU rechargable batteries and try to make use I change them out each day before going to the field. I have three sets, one in each camera and one in the charger; however, to be on the safe side...I have a little kit that I bought at Waxman's Photo that holds four (4) AA batteries, two compactflash cards, and a cloth for cleaning the lens. Have used the back up batteries on a couple of occasions and was really glad I had a back up compact flash card since I left the one out of the camera in the SanDisk reader on my desk.

Now my major worry is leaving the office without the lock box key which has to be returned to it's cradle every night to be updated. Thinking about a sign on the door...."did you remember the lock box key?" Suppose as I get older will need a full check list

I recommend those of you using floppy disks to look into upgrading to a better removable media.

You can save hundreds of pictures on a single "card" compared to just a dozen on a floppy. They write/load MUCH faster. Just as easy to use especially when you have a card reader. No moving parts so they use less energy (batteries last longer) and can be used over and over without going bad (nothing worse than getting back to your office and finding out some of your pictures don't work because of a bad floppy).

Also, some computers are already being shipped without floppy drives...there will be a day when you go to buy a new PC and none of them have a floppy drive...

PS: I hate floppy disks <_<

Where do you save the pictures? Also, how do you number the pictures?

If you number the pictures 1-50 each time and save them to a CD, do you receive a message “already exists”?

The reason I like the Mavica is because of the X10 zoom.

I would have to spend about $400 for a X8 zoom.

Will,

You hit FORMAT on the Mavica and it starts numbering them. My Mavica has both the stick and the floppy. I always have about 10 floppies in the trunk in case I forget the stick. The stick is 10 times faster and there are no $%#@!* Disk errors. I have a 3x zoom which works for me, as stated before, the next generation of computers won't have floppy drives. Time to throw away that measuring wheel along with your floppies and get into the 90's!!! er, zeroes.

I just bought a new floppy Mavica last year and I will never get rid of the wheel. I use the wheel and Disto.

What do you do when there is nothing to hit with your laser beam?

I found my next appraisal camera, but I will wait a few years until the price comes down. $400.

Is anyone using a Sony with Memory Card like this?

Sony Cyber-shot® Digital Camera (DSC-P72) This would also be good for personal use.

I save the photos onto my hard drive in a picture directory. I delete the old pictures after 6-12 months.

I have a 2 year old Sony Cybershot 3.2MP DSC-P71 (10x total zoom with 3x optical) that cost me $349 new and you can get a similar one but with 5.1 MP for less money now.

When you setup the file number you just select "series" so the pictures numbers do not reset. The file number of my last picture was DSC00993.JPG and I have a long way to go before I'll have to use the same number over again.

The Minolta DiMage Z series (1,2 & 3) start at 3.2 mp and go up. They start in price around $160 and go up. They have a 10x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom (40x total zoom) and use AA batteries and SD cards. 400+ photos on a 128meg card at normal resolution. The wide angle is good enough not to need the extra lenses or filters. It feels like a 35mm and has the SLR optics like a 35mm. They are instant on and instant off. NO standing around waiting for them to boot up. The auto-focus is so near instant that you won't realize it actually take .0002 seconds for it focus. It automatically assigns and tracks photo numbers and can be reset at the end of each year or month or week if you prefer.

There are several of us using them now and no complaints from anyone. There are a few reviews from the field available on the forum by different members. Just search on Minolta Z1. :)
