Also, I wonder how many that tested negative actually had the virus before being tested and were asymptomatic and how many got it after being tested but were asymptomatic. Back when the Polio virus was going around, the vaccine worked but there were cases where children who were vaccinated brought the disease to parents. This was a particular issue in remote areas of the country where adults had not been exposed to the virus previously like the Dakotas, etc. By teen years most people develop immunity to polio by being exposed to it bit by bit over time. Roosevelt got it later in life probably because he had otherwise spent a sheltered life away from others. Getting polio was usually a death sentence for adults (Roosevelt was only 62 but looked 80), and children rarely lived to be old. My friend who had it died at age 48. Lung complications they traced back to the disease. His case was fairly mild. OTOH, I found out a friend, 84 died recently in Alamogordo. Been in a wheelchair for 40 years. Walked with crutches until then. Sadly, he died because someone ran into him in his wheelchair at Walmart. He was basically paralyzed from the chest down so when it knocked him over, he went into breathing problems. By the time they got him to the hospital and got him on a respirator, he was brain dead.
