What's happening to the flu? Doctors explain impact of COVID-19 precautions in California

An expert with Kaiser Permanente says by early January, California would normally see a serious uptick in flu cases, but not this year.

"We are testing still thousands of people in our emergency room settings and in our hospitals for a combination of COVID and flu tests and we're essentially seeing no flu. Some weeks we'll have no cases, other we'll have maybe one or two cases."

so obviously, the masks do not work against the other virus.

Just dodged a bullet. had 2:00 pm appt. today for full inspection. just got off of phone with borrower. Household member tested positive this morning at work (rapid test). Close call.

Here is a comprehensive medical presentation on Vitamin D and Covid 19 for those who fancy science based discussions.

Vitamin D and Covid 19

Basically, one should take vitamin D supplements and avoid high fructose corn syrup, however the lecture covers a bit more than that.
Interesting regarding Vitamin D.

High fructose corn syrup? That seems like a stretch. I know obesity increases risk, but narrowing it down to high fructose corn syrup seems like a stretch.

You haven't found the opposite. That's because you didn't understand what I stated.

Stating that wearing masks slows the spread obviously happens, but that was not my point, nor does what you referenced disprove what I stated.

To use an analogy, I'm stating that if you drive toward the cliff at 100 mph, and you reduce your speed to 50 mph, you're still going to drive off the cliff, it will just take longer.

You're trying to argue that if you drive at 50 mph, you'll never get to the cliff.

The goal was to slow the spread so that hospitals can handle to the patient load. It was never to stop the spread, because that is an impossibility in a global pandemic.
David, your cliff analogy is flawed because you insinuate that the results in the end would be the same: the car goes over the cliff.

Because of measures taken the number of deaths will be greatly reduced.

Estimates showed 2m deaths in the United States without taking measures.

So far they have recorded 365k deaths, which is likely an undercounty, but it is still probably below 500k deaths.

We aren't going to get to 2m deaths because:

1. we have a vaccine
2. taking active prevention measures has led to hospitals not filling up and has a kept a high quality of care for each patient
3. Slowing the spread has given us more time to find better treatments (Death rate is lower now than in the spring)

So you analogy could go like this:
you drive a car at 100mph and run into a wall you die instantly. You drive a car into a wall at 35mph you get hurt pretty bad, but you survive and are back to telling AMCs you won't appraise that mansion for $200 in 6 months.

Also, I fail to see the reason for being impolite to @Sadie. She has been polite to you.

Interesting! My Test reveals for years that I am chronically Vitamin 'D' deficient. No Doctors have figured out why! So I take the D Supplement every day. Plus a Multi-Vitamin Tablet...which has 'D' in it also, About every three months My Doc sends me the Super 'D' Gel caps ... Whats weird is I have good Bone Density... Go Figure

The whole thing is quite complicated. You can go to minutes 5 through 8 for the high fructose corn syrup.

Vitamin D can have various forms within the system. It is stored in fat within the body, and gets converted into an active form for the kidney and immune system when needed. It also gets inactivated. There is some evidence that high fructose corn syrup (and possibly other sugars) can accelerate the inactivation from the active 25 and 1,25 Hydroxylase forms into the inactive 24 Hydroxylase form.

See minute 7.

Will have to check it out later. I imagine what is true for high fructose corn syrup is true for sugar in any form. Will check it out later, youtube is blocked for me during the workday. :)
