You say Plat map, I say Plot map

It could be a PLOT to gather a PLAT

Ho Ho Ho !!!

Alright, enough of the platitudes! :icon_mrgreen:

Actually both plat map and plot map are incorrect--unless you stutter. You can have plot plan. Plat, plot, map all mean the same thing. Saying plat map you are actually saying plat plat or map map. A plat is a map, a plot is a map. Unless you are using the word plot as a verb. "As I plotted out the improvements on the map." "This map is a reproduction of the subdivision plat." My husband is a registered land surveyor in three states, and has been yelling at me for 49 years to never say plat map or plot map, they are an inaccurate descriptions of a map or a plat.

Tell him to go stick a transit in his ear. That way he won't hear you speaking about plat maps.

Or the Plat sickens....'

Here a Plat book is a county township and range ownership map

A plot is a drawing which is "plotted" using the legal dimension

I generally think of a plat as the recorded document establishing the subdivision, while the "plot" is site specific (survey).

I agree....but to elaborate a bit, I have always thought of a plot map as that which is generally attached to a set of building plans and showing the location of the improvments in reference to boundary lines. It would also shows curbs and sidewalks, driveway encroachment, water, sewer and any underground utility line locations.

While I agree "plat map" can be viewed as redundant, I must disagree on "plot map." As Mike states a plot map would be a drawing of stuff on a given piece of land, a plot. Plot does not mean a map, it means a specific area of land. Plat, while a synonym for plot, also means a map showing the stuff on a piece of land or a plan showing the stuff proposed for a piece of land. So a plot map and a plat map would be the same thing. Plat map can be viewed as redundant since a plat can be a map, but a plat can also be a plan of what will be present. A map only shows what is present, so plat map is distinguishes it as a plat that only show things that exist, not proposed improvements.

So the next time you see a report for proposed construction with something showing the lot and building outlines labeled "plat map" instead of just "plat" don't tell them it is redundant, rather explain it is misleading. :rof:

we use either the Assessor's Tax Maps; the Deed Boundries; or a Copy of the A-2 Survey. Never used plat or plot, they do not provide the recorded legal beagle I need for my reports. We just share our "Discovery's" we do not assume the many maps available provide any greater support, they may be flawed......who nose.

Round these parts we don't concern ourselves with such trivialities. Whenever the powers that be encounter something confusing they just create their own vernacular. First of all, our real property records and recordation are not handled at the local level - they fall under the auspices of our state Bureau of Conveyances, (BOC). We don't have plat maps, we have tax maps. Individual parcels don't have APNs, they have TMK, (Tax Map Key), numbers.

Our state statutes and administrative code, and many other official texts are typified by liberal use of the King's English. We don't have speed bumps - we have speed humps. The list goes on and on.

Gotta be different 'cause you know - different is better???!!!

DM; Title Searchers in these hear parts put so many different references, I don't believe the Lender has a clue as to what they actually lent on; this is why I add the "Deed" into the report....the record of the land mass transferred, any questions, go see the Lawyer who drafted the Transfer. Wala.....hey kin eye git sum fries wit dat..lol

Guy goes to his Doc, says his stomachs been bothering him; Doc says whats your mornin like, he says, get up - have breakfast and around 8:15 do my duty. Doc says, lets do an xray......Doc comes back shortly thereafter and says, hey I saw three worms in there, we're gonna half to go in. The three worms all meet and say where you hidden; 1st worm says I'm goin behind the stomach wall; 2nd one says, I'm goin behind the intestines;

3rd ones says........I'm takin the 8:15 outa here............ROFL
