FAA has requested information from at least one New York brokerage that uses drones to take listing photos

Asked about the probe, an FAA spokesperson said that the agency cannot comment on an active investigation.

Word of the FAA’s inquiry comes about a week after the agency said that agents who fly drones to take pictures or videos of listings are not engaged in a “hobby or recreation,” meaning that the FAA could attempt to take enforcement actions against them if they and their aircraft have not been certified as experimental or commercial operators.

Some real estate agents who fly drones to photograph listings have claimed that they qualify as hobbyists because they do not charge for the service. Companies that shoot drone photography or video for real estate brokers and agents have sometimes said that they are charging for photo or video editing, not drone flights.

Hummm.

.

Interesting! I have yet to see a drone in action.

I have a dufus neighbor who has one. It looks to be as interesting as watching paint dry. Not that there is anything wrong with that if it is what you find enjoyable.

I have a drone that I fly around for fun. I've also used it out in the field to take pictures of the house drone above. Love my drone. Used it this weekend at the Cabin in NC.

That is funny but they are really fun to operate. This is pretty interesting since it was talked about in length as an appraisal tool in the long string below. I am really interested to see how it works out. Quickly, I think brokers or even appraisers who use the technology in the future should be certified as experimental or commercial operators. As I said in the long string, they are not that easy to fly. The argument that they are not making money is foolish because if the place sells.............I am not so sure a judge will buy it.

Anyways, it's a stupid argument.

We have a right to privacy as American citizens.

It's disrespectful for people to violate that, regardless of the cause or reasoning.

Did you read the latest stories about tin foil hat classification, and it's mis use?

I have not heard about it. Whats going on or give me a link. As far a privacy I understand I really do. I have made clear many times on this forum I am a Libertarian in many respects but the fact is there is no more privacy in today's world. Just as there is no longer a 4th amendment. Am I happy about it. Nope.
