Comparables Mapping Software

We only write narratives, and I replace my laptop Saturday. By Wednesday, after all the setup and work-arounds, I discovered I've lost my last living CD of Streets, so had to do something in a hurry. It took half the day going thorough options but I've settled on Google my maps. I watched a few You-Tube videos and it wasn't all that bad figuring things out. Not being able to "touch" the icons and lacking zoom-control are bears, but I'll get used to it... until Google decides to change too.

theres an old farm appraiser in my area that prints black and white copies of the township map, draws on it with colored markers, and color scans it in to his report

Yes, and the best place to write an appraisal report used to be at the copy machine...

Wow, a labor of love huh. lol Reminds me of my late grandmother,...She used to print out her emails, then take them over to the recliner and read them there.

Since we are making fun of old(er) people anyway, at C&W as late as 2000 there were still managers who had their secretary print emails for them to long-hand replies so the secretary could type and send them. My favorite was one who freaked when his secretary was out and his password wasn't working. Because he had seen her type it so many times he thought it was ***********.

Now, I am beginning to understand sometimes when I have to call tech support.

Batch Geo is particularly useful when you are converting a list of addresses in excel to a map. Aside from that, our software automatically produces comp maps.

At my previous firm we had to use DeLorme. I loathe making comp maps, it truly is a waste of time. Anything that a secretary or junior can do without significant guidance should be something that your software can do for you.

@NachoPerito how is Valcre working out for you? If I weren't with my current firm, I would purchase that thing in a second.

So right. I'm not liking the html map automatic placement of comps, where too many overlap. We frequently need to nudge an icon a little. The html zoom is terrible. I'm a whiner about this, I know; I am in mourning that I can't find my old Streets CD, but then again it's time to move on. They're available online.

When I'm working with our tech team, I'm constantly telling them to make things idiot proof, so that even I could use it ... I get stuff back with big colored buttons with instructions saying "Press here to ...". They're not so subtly making fun of the old guy, but I don't care, because the stuff they do for me works ...

Why not just use the Snipit tool in Windows. It will save you a couple clicks.

We use WinTotal in our office, has a map feature in it for location, comps, and other maps..
