DESKTOP appraisal's - The appraiser's Best Play?

I've demo'd one of the offerings, and it was with a homeowner. I was pretty impressed. And, based on conversations I've had with other appraisers who've used the technology, they've been won over as well. That's not to say everyone who tries it will be sold, but I think it does imply that, if you haven't tried it, you really have no idea...
Maybe I will like it, I can allow for that. Which tech version or app did you use?

Incenter's RemoteVal. At the time, it didn't have the measuring technology. I understand that it does now. Haven't used CubiCasa yet, although I think it's probably the front runner at this point.

One thing I won't be doing is live video chatting with a homeowner trying to get them to properly measure their house and somehow translate that into my own dimensioned drawing. Someone at the lenders office is welcome to do that however.

Stanius believes demographics suggest the shortage of appraisers will not improve anytime soon.
Class Valuation is perpetuating the lie of an appraiser shortage.

If Class and other low paying AMC's would pay the same fee or similar to what the VA pays in most areas, and reduce their frivolous and unpaid revision requests, I believe suddenly, as if by a miracle.......there would be no shortage of appraisers.

I'm hesitant to use the word 'shortage' as well, although I think you'd agree that, over the past 3-4 years, demand has most definitely exceeded supply. Had it not been for the 50-60% appraisal waivers from the GSE's, there's absolutely no way the current population of appraisers could have kept up. In addition, some have estimated that over 50% of the appraiser population is within 10 years of 'traditional' retirement. So, whether there is a shortage now or not (debatable), unless there is a large influx of appraisers, or demand for appraisal services diminishes for some reason, there soon will be.

I will most likely add a $50 fee to my standard fee. This is for the additional time verifying and interpreting crappy photos, and also reaching out to the inspector to verify/ask questions which I would have known had I inspected the property myself.

they have divided the appraiser from their clients, fees, independence, and now the inspection

and the serpent said, surely you will not die

We received three desktop requests yesterday from XX, and they offered similarly $110 and $120 for the effort. After my assistant very kindly rejected the fees offered, XX responded "All the other appraisers in your county are accepting them for that amount or less."

That's a problem since my firm represents the only active appraisers in this entire county.
I expect that if anyone involved in pushing this the hardest could take a moment and be truthful and transparent, they would tell you this is the whole idea!
