Deck with no railing

The 2' foot fall that killed Grandpa...lol
I spend more time than I like at the local assisted living facility. 2 elderly people have died this year from falls on level ground. Hit their heads, brain bleeds, death within about 30 days.

I used to could jump off a 3' retaining wall without even thinking about it. I have to crawl down them now...
The funny part is.....your brain actually thinks you can make it....it's good when common sense prevails and you crawl down.

When I jog across the street to get out of the way of an oncoming car.....I feel like a bear running on its hind legs across the road.

I'm not saying I was Superman when I was young, but I was very athletic. Crazy how much things change. For me it was the 'after 50' years. Prior to 50, I don't recall ever worrying about whether my @$$ could keep up with my brain. Now I don't trust my brain one iota.

Now I don't trust my brain one iota.
The old "brain writing checks that your body can't cash" syndrome.

Hell, anymore, if I have the choice of stepping over something 24" tall or walking 20' around it...I'm taking the long way.

I'm not athletic but still I used to cross a barb wire fence of 42" or so by grabbing a post and catapulting over the wire. I cannot even crawl thru one now, and if I try to roll under, I cannot get up easily. I picked up a strand of rope under my mower and had to get down on my belly to unwind it and get it out from around the hub of the blade. Then the issue was how to get back up...

To me the worse and easiest place to fall is a sunken living room. Absolute old folks death trap.

One of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" design flaws. Most in this area have been un-sunken, owner framed up the floor and brought it up to the level of the rest of the home.

Whenever I'm on the floor, either by accident or on purpose, I take a moment to look around and see if there's anything that needs doing while I'm down there.
