I've been seeing a number of MLS listings with nothing but drone pics. That's annoying.
Completely understand if you're a home inspector. Checking out the condition of the roof, the chimney flashing, Etc. Unless it's an estate, I don't see the point for an appraisal. Even with an estate, you can Google Earth it.

It'll be interesting to hear from TC to see if it's"in demand".

Marketing tool. You want the old guy with Obama phone camera or that same old guy show's up with a cool drone and the latest technology.

It may be bull**** but it's a great marketing tool. The Dog and Pony Show.

Hey mom that cool old guy showed me how a drone works. And he's got the latest Apple 18 with 6 cameras and a built in laser thingy. Geez remember that other dork in flip fflops, bald and that K Mart not so smart $20 phone and camera.

You're bald and appraised in flip flops? :)

No I'm blessed full head of hair never wore shorts or flip flops to inspection. Dicky Shirts, Black Levis. Then had mechanic overalls in truck if it was
a dirty site. Never wanted to look like
the typical homeless appraiser.

When I first started, I always wore Ralph Lauren khakis and a nice button up or Polo. However, after measuring by rusty bikes, lawn mowers, dirty sheds and trying to protect my clothes from jumping dogs with my clipboard..... I just switched to Costco khakis and polos.

Even as a surfer, I never went to an inspection in shorts or sandals. During the mortgage broker days, I did do a couple inspections in Levi's and a t-shirt when my mortgage broker clients told me to drop everything and go now..... always got paid at least $100 more for those.

Hey TC..... inquiring minds have to know. How much more are you going to net on property data collection flying a drone? I know you're taking lessons, is there a want or a need from the lenders for drone pics?
Just kidding about the drone training. Who knows, that could be the next step for data collection. I was approached to do inspections using a LiDAR device, but I declined. I can’t imagine walking through a hoarder’s house with that equipment. Speaking of which, I recently visited one of the worst hoarder houses I’ve ever seen. One bedroom was so cluttered that I could only open the door wide enough to stick my camera in and take a photo. I was smiling when I left that property Cuz I didn't have to write up the report!

i could see drone photography or videos as useful in agricultural or forest land properties covering acreage, or some large industrial sites. I can not fathom a need for it in res appraising. Young people like their smart phones and the ability to take selfies, except for hobbyists most are not that into drones-

You must be registered if you're using a drone for commercial purposes. If you're using it for personal use, you still need to take a test, at least in Pennsylvania.

I have done that before. It makes you wonder how they got out of the room and closed the door.
