Hello All;

Scenario: Yesterday @ 4:00 PM driving in car, cell rings. "Hello, I am xxxx from xxxxx company. I want to place an order with you" Me "That's fine, I'm in my car, would you please fax it over to me." "Yes, can you keep an evening apt tomorrow (Friday)?" (me thinking to my self...you miserable SOB, I am not your employee, and who the hell are you to schedule for me?)

I told him no, I have plans. Click - hang up by him.

Here's the rant - He had no thought about my quals, E&O, turn time, FHA roster etc. But all he cared about was to lock up the borrower ASAP.

If we don't stand up for ourselves and demand respect we will continue to be treated like serfs.

Regards

Hal

Exactly. Tell them as a professional you have an obligation to service your regular full-fee customers first and all others will be serviced in order.

I would have been thinking, how good it was I don't have to deal with setting the time for an appointment. Since I don't have plans this evening, I would have gladly taken the order. But then it is part of my normal business practices to do inspections on evenings and weekends. If the time is not in your normal business hours, the just decline (as you did.) Why get upset about it? Appraisers' jobs are to provide a service, not to be the gods of valuation.

Do they call lawyers demanding after hours title opinions? Surveyors? Title companies? Your frick'n lawn mower service?? no. why should we except to demonstrate what a lapdog you are... pant pant i will do anything for a $125.....

They don't ask you to do these things because THEY are rushed. They ask them just to see how pliable you are....they won't treat you like a professional because you can't be and act like Desperate Dan, the report in the can by noon...

Who said anything about 'after hours' service? You better believe I told my lawn service when to show up! I have no idea about the surveyors, but I know the lawyers and title companies often work evenings and weekends.

One does not have to be 'desperate' to be available on evenings and weekends, that is when most people do their part-time work to supplement a real job.

Not if their real job is flipping burgers at McDonalds evenings.. :)

Hal!!! Go back through the Archives, You & few of us have been trying to use the word profession since we started. Guess it's going to be another word that is going to become extict. "Know what I'm saying". I do feel bad for the young uns that are trying to maintain professionlism in this indusrty. Then I'll go to a class & find that most of them have NOT written letters, never attended a board meeting, or even know what's going on.

Same story continues; so few actually care that when there is no job anymore, (there probablly always be form filling but not in a professional manner). most will blame it on the other guy.

There are those that are so good they claim rhey can make money doing Apprasisals for less than 1980 prices.

Good to hear you're acting like a professional.

Who in the He!! wants this as a part time job? This is my career and I work it full time. If you earn enough at your chosen profession you will not need a part time job. My attorney or CPA does not mow lawns in the afternoons or weekends to make ends meet and neither will I. If you let others dictate your fees and work hours (AMCs) then you may as well mow grass! Just my $0.02.

What's the big deal? He asked IF you would be available. He did not demand that you postpone anyplans....he asked!

Sheesh! What grouches some of you are getting to be!
