You obviously have also been selecting reading missing posts 1445, 1416 and others.

Nice Trumpian reference to Muslims as if being one were a sin against humanity. Mob mentality at its finest.

Your thoughts on the belittling of the President? Pot calling the kettle black?

"Appeal to authority" is not a reference to Pres. Obama, direct or otherwise. If you don't understand the term then perhaps you should Google it. And FTR, I basically never criticize Pres. Obama on a personal level, even as I disagree with some of his politics.

Me mocking the mindless form of indoctrination via rote memorization that occurs at the tables of a madrassa is likewise not comparable - in any way - to calling islam a sin against humanity. So you're not doing your credibility any favors with that wordplay, either.

I freely acknowledge that you're not the only one throwing in ad hominems in these discussions but you are invariably the one who starts it, and you NEVER fail to perpetuate it once it gets going. YOU are the primary instigator for the course level of discussion - the biggest hypocrite when it comes to allegations of people being contemptuous or arrogant to each other. None of us are innocent but if we're going to keep score you are always way out in front.

These discussions would be a lot more civil if you'd actually add something of substance to them rather than habitually reverting to expressing your personal contempt for anyone with whom you have a disagreement. .

I'm sure the "madras" reference is one that's been in your repertoire for decades, right? Not hypocritical to trot that out in the current environment at all.

I express my contempt for all of those that label anyone with a contrasting opinion "liars" or part of some nefarious conspiracy. I will continue to express my contempt for those that insult and denigrate our President (yes our President--just as Mr. Bush was our President---as I have repeated time and time again I disapproved of those that chose to malign him. Disagreement is a whole 'nother matter). You betcha. Fairly common on this forum on any and all topics. They had coarsened the discourse well before I chimed in to call them on it, questioning their beliefs that besmirch anyone who disagrees with them. Clearly you missed the venom and vitriol for anyone who opposes their viewpoint before I entered the thread. I merely called them on their venom and close-mindedness.

There is no way to have a civil discussion with such ideologues.

And the science and evidence to back up your opinion is.........where???????????

You have not yet provided anything to support an opposing opinion.

A civil discussion should contain substance, not simply ideas pulled from thin area that are sold to the masses for a consensus of acceptance.

The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is very likely human-induced and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented in the past 1,300 years.1

Earth-orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing climate.

The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century.2 Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.

Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. They also show that in the past, large changes in climate have happened very quickly, geologically-speaking: in tens of years, not in millions or even thousands.3

  • Sea level rise
Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century. The rate in the last decade, however, is nearly double that of the last century.4

Most of this warming has occurred since the 1970s, with the 20 warmest years having occurred since 1981 and with all 10 of the warmest years occurring in the past 12 years.6 Even though the 2000s witnessed a solar output decline resulting in an unusually deep solar minimum in 2007-2009, surface temperatures continue to increase.7

This increase is the result of humans emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and hence more being absorbed into the oceans. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the upper layer of the oceans is increasing by about 2 billion tons per year.14,15

Pete,

The issue was not, is the globe warming. We've all presented the scientific studies, data, and proof that it has been warming since the ice age ended.

The issue was; is this the result of a billion people? Or is it the normal cycle of the planet?

So far, scientific evidence presented says it is the normal cycle of the planet. Underneath the melting glaciers is proof that plants, animals and man all lived in those places, long before autos and factories, so historically, the earth has been warmer than it is today.

Your argument was the globe is warming due to a billion people, cause your president told you so, and wasting money on solar panels is good for the environment.

But thank you for making me look smart.

:rof:

Not a billion people, a billion plus cars and factories spewing particulates into the atmosphere. Trend since the beginning of the industrial revolution?

As to making you look smart? I'm only human and have my limitations--I'm not a miracle worker.

P.S. you misrepresent the scientific evidence. President told me nothing. Hundreds of scientists have told me plenty, however.
