Right. What they don’t mention is that while you might save 70% on your electric bill, you’ll probably pay close to that (with some smaller savings left) to pay for the solar panels that company installed. You’ll swap one payment for another, but you surely won’t get the full 70% in savings.

‘Caveat Emptor’ – let the buyer beware. That means you, Pete! :)

Don't forget higher RE taxes,
higher income taxes on the savings,
higher homeowner's insurance - that one will be great with non-owned or leased attached equipment.
Yup,
Save your way to being rich.

Here is a clothes line,
save some money, save the planet, cut down on your electric bill.

Just think,
Going naked is going green!

th

No electric needed.

I had a greenie tell me recently that Duke Energy was Immoral. He then said in the context of it takes time to reach greenie goals and that they(Duke Energy) had to be able to recover there investment(in coal plants and other infrastructure investments.

I thought that was an odd statement from him. He thinks they are immoral but deserve a chance to recover past cost. Hmmmm! I did not want to get in an argument with him about how energy companies have been heavily regulated and they exist because of a demand for energy. Utilities have government in there business in a huge way through regulation.

I pushed this fruitcake on how he lived his life in regards to energy. His simple answer was "I do what I can." Really, no chit Sherlock. I wanted to say to him; "You are not doing enough" I wanted to say to him that he should do so much that it would be a hardship on him. I realized that this would fall on death ears. My point being that many people/families are not able to do very much at all since there stomachs come first. The Greenies don't care. They are convinced they are right and everyone who opposes them are stupid and ignorant. Lefties don't like any opposition.

Pete has drunk the kool aid. Randolph has not! Pete is a name caller. Randolph post pages of contrary argument. I live in a City that has done a good job trying to clean up the air without crippling the economy and bankrupting the little guy. Pete Lives in the sixth most filthiest Air Quality City in the US.

I could go on and on.

Arizona Public Service filed a report to the rate commision justifying rate increases on rooftop solar.

Like other utilities across the country, APS is trying to move away from the system of net metering, in which solar customers are paid full retail credit for most of the power they send to the grid from solar panels. The debate over what solar customers should pay for their utility service is likely to alter how all customers pay for electricity, with a "demand rate" expected to be proposed for all residential customers.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/mone.../aps-solar-customers-underpay-costs/73602784/

Saving the planet will cost more for solar PV customers. They haven't figured it out that the utility is in business to make money. The distortion of shifting cost to non-solar PV customers as well as rate increases to sustain profitability has caused a firestorm by ratepayers.

Solar panel companies are naturally against leveling the playing field because that will kill their business. Gee, no more free lunch!

Future of solar depends on the federal government continued funding of solar research

Dept. of Energy laying off solar energy researchers

On Monday, Oct. 5, Stuart Farrell had planned to take the morning off from his job as a researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo., after being awake all night taking care of his sick 2-year-old son. But at 10:30 a.m., he received a call asking him to come in for an 11:30 meeting.

“I woke up, got myself as awake as possible, and came into work,” Farrell said. “My manager and I went to a meeting with the person above him, and they told me that I was let go. And I had the rest of that day to pack up my stuff and leave.”

Farrell, who had worked in solar energy research at the laboratory for two and a half years, was one of 15 solar research staff members laid off that day due to federal funding cuts, according to NREL public affairs manager George Douglas. And another 40 to 60 staff members are expected to be lost through a voluntary separation program that the lab will initiate on Oct. 12.

Almost all of the researchers already laid off were involved in “next generation,” or long-term, solar research, Douglas said. Farrell’s work, for instance, involved research on improving the efficiency of cadmium telluride solar cells.

Federal funding for solar energy research has declined steadily over the past several years, despite emphasis from the Obama administration on continued investment in research and development of clean energy technologies. These cuts have affected the federal solar program at large, not just solar research at NREL.

Questions about scientific competitiveness. According to a 2015 report from the Congressional Research Service, China produced about two-thirds of the world’s solar modules in 2013, most of which were exported. And the same report notes, “[U.S.] imports of solar cells and panels nearly tripled from 2009, reaching $3.6 billion in 2013,” most of which came from Asia. In contrast, the U.S. exported $350 million in photovoltaics to the world in 2013.

So while the U.S. does continue to embrace solar as an alternative energy source, its role in international development and manufacturing of photovoltaics may be shrinking. “It’s sad to see that manufacturing element [moving offshore], but we live in a reality of a global marketplace,” Compaan said.

“As solar becomes more and more competitive, even without subsidies or without incentives, the need for a trained work force gets more and more urgent,” said Compaan, from Lucintech. “This lack of funding is really impacting our ability to follow through on commitments when it comes to reducing carbon emissions and taking the steps to mitigate climate change.”

Old saying: R & D follows manufacturing. The dollars are made in manufacturing with sales to fund R & D. As manufacturing moves offshore, so does R & D.

You don't create jobs here by driving up the energy cost here. You don't create jobs here by driving up the cost of manufacturing here.

Eventually, there is no employment for R & D here other than that funded by the taxpayer. Even that won't help since those discoveries will benefit competitors outside of the U.S. since there is no manufacturing employment here.

Damn oil companies will raise global temperature by using solar

World’s Largest Solar Farm Will Help Companies Produce MORE Oil

Solar-GlassPoint.jpg

The solar plant, named Mirrah, will use a huge 1,021 megawatt solar array to heat water to produce steam. The steam will be shot into a reservoir to aid in the extraction of heavier crude oil. This technique only works on certain types of very viscous and very heavy oil.

The project in Oman will be the first time that this specific technique will use solar power to produce oil on a commercial scale. Mirrah will be capable ofgenerating 6,000 tons of steam per day starting in 2017, and will cost approximately $600 million. Previously, the oil field in question used natural gas to power the process (and will continue to use natural gas at night, when solar power is unavailable.)

Oman has a history of using natural gas steam injection to boost oil production, as the country is heavily dependent on oil for its economy. Its energy sector accounts for about 50 percent of Oman’s GDP and 75 percent of government revenue.

Mirrah is a joint venture between the Omani government, Shell, Total, and California-based GlassPoint Solar.

Wow! New application of the old proverb: Make hay (oil) while the sun shines. :)

Yeah but,

All those unemployed scientists can now be appraisers until this bubble pops too.

A couple of zepplins, and,
old world technology over takes new world technology.

Shade,

What a nice, quiet, green attack.
