Getting back to the El Nino and La Nina climate events, since these are not CO2 dependent (they are in fact independent of the atmosphere since they have occurred for 100,000s of years), blaming La Nina for cooling the atmosphere is tantamount to saying, "the dog ate my homework" as it relates to human CO2 emissions.
You really ought to read what you post. That is not the point that it made. I'd try to explain it to you but I'm sure you'd ignore the explanation and take another route of distortion!
 
Well Pete, since you can't explain your position and how El Nino / La Nina is caused by human emissions of CO2, your dog must have eaten your homework.

Is El Niño linked to global warming?

Last month, the World Meteorological Organisation said El Niño, which occurs every two to seven years, is this year set to be the most powerful for 15 years.

'Severe droughts and devastating flooding being experienced throughout the tropics and sub-tropical zones bear the hallmarks of this El Niño, which is the strongest in more than 15 years,' WMO chief Michel Jarraud said.

WMO linked this year's El Niño to the 'very active tropical cyclone season' in the Pacific, including the record-breaking Hurricane Patricia that hit Mexico last month.

Scientists say climate patterns like El Niño are not caused by climate change.

You would think if these climate scientists know that El Nino occurs regularly every 2 to 7 years, they could program their computer climate model to show the effects, which they do not. What they do know, human emissions of CO2 has no relationship to these naturally occurring phenomena so it would follow that they ignore El Ninos in their computer climate model and predictions.

Paris (AFP) - Planet Earth could be at higher risk of a space rock impact than widely thought, according to astronomers who suggested Tuesday keeping a closer eye on distant giant comets. Most studies of potential Earth-smashers focus on objects in the asteroid belt roughly between Mars, Earth's outside neighbor, and Jupiter on its other flank, said the researchers.

In the last three decades, we have invested a lot of effort in tracking and analyzing the risk of a collision between the Earth and an asteroid," said co-author Bill Napier of the University of Buckingham.

"Our work suggests we need to look beyond our immediate neighborhood too, and look out beyond the orbit of Jupiter to find centaurs.
"If we are right, then these distant comets could be a serious hazard, and it's time to understand them better."

Scientists believe a comet bombardment may have kick started life on Earth by bringing water and organic molecules.

A comet strike is also a leading contender for having ended the reign of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

The team said no risk was "known to be imminent", although comet encounters were largely unpredictable.

"A centaur arrival carries the risk of injecting, into the atmosphere... a mass of dust and smoke comparable to that assumed in nuclear winter studies," wrote the researchers, referring to the hypothesized climate effects from the soot that would be released by firestorms caused in an atomic war.

"Thus, in terms of magnitude, its ranking among natural existential risks appears to be high," they said.

You can't swindle someone into buying solar panels by telling them the earth has a greater probability of being destroyed by external events beyond human cause or control than global warming caused by human CO2 emissions.

Astronomers studying the atmosphere around the gas giant Jupiter believe they have finally solved the mystery about what keeps the planet's temperature regulated. Using data from Nasa probes, the planetary scientists have found that the gases in Jupiter's atmosphere alone can't account for the planet's climate. Instead, they now believe a thick haze of low density hydrocarbons interacts with solar energy in the atmosphere to regulate heat.

The findings mean Jupiter's atmosphere is heated differently to Earth's, and could help us to understand the climate of other planets in the solar system, and beyond.

A team of researchers led by Dr Xi Zhang, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, now believe that the tiny airborne particles play a key role in balancing the heat being absorbed and released by the planet's atmosphere.

Pollution is GOOD!

Here on Earth, aerosols play an important role in maintaining our global climate.

For example, the raft of tiny airborne particles spewed out by erupting volcanoes can stay in the upper atmosphere for months, causing an atmospheric cooling effect.

Writing in the journal Nature Communications, the team found that the previous heat equations for the planet's atmosphere did not quite add up.

Using data captured by Nasa's Cassini and Voyager space probes, the team showed that by themselves, the gases in the atmosphere could not account for the balance between the heat absorbed from incoming solar radiation and the heat escaping by infrared radiation.

Instead, they suggest that hydrocarbons in the planet's atmosphere condense, forming a 'thick aerosol layer consisting of fluffy, fractal aggregate particles.'

Their low density means the particles can hang high up in the atmosphere, absorbing energy from the sun as it reaches the planet and releasing heat back into space, and balancing the heat equation.

The thick haze of hydrocarbon compounds likely absorbs heat from the sun in the mid to high latitudes, warming Jupiter's atmosphere.

But they may also cool the planet by reflecting sunlight.


This would mean that Jupiter's atmosphere has a different energy cycle to that of Earth.

The researchers wrote that while their findings relate only to Jupiter, they could be applied to other planets in the solar system, and even the growing number of exoplanets light years from Earth.

Predicting ENSO

El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a climate phenomenon that is due to coupling between the atmosphere and ocean in the tropical Pacific. Important for the evolution of the atmosphere is the distribution of the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) that creates near surface pressure gradients in the atmosphere (via atmosphere-ocean heat exchange, hydrostatic balance, and the ideal gas law) and hence drives the winds. Important for the ocean is the surface wind stress, which drives ocean currents and upwelling (especially along the equator) and hence affects strongly the SST.

The time scale of ENSO (interannual) results from a competition of processes with comparable time scales (6-10 months): the dynamical adjustment time of the upper ocean in the tropics to a change in the wind stress; the time for the upper ocean and atmosphere to come to a thermodynamic equilibrium. The result is a interannual climate phenomenon that occurs every 2-7 years, with an average time between peak events (eg., El Nino) of about four years. ENSO creates global scale climate changes via atmospheric teleconnections.

A forecast of the state of ENSO over the next year is an example of a climate forecast. The forecast accuracy will depend on the quality of the AGCM, the ocean model (often an ocean GCM), the representation of the energy and moisture transfer between the two media, and the quality of the initialization of the ocean. (the state of the ocean at initialization time is a result of the integrated effects of the wind forcing over the past few years). This is very different set of criteria from the criteria for a good weather forecast (cf, section 1).

Notice that the ideal gas law (PV=nRT) is used as an integral part of explaining El Nino. The uneven heating of the earth by the sun causes pressure gradients to form which causes wind to blow (equalize pressure and redistributes heat). Winds blowing across a surface, be it land or water or ice, causes frictional heating of the surface and the air above and is call wind stress.

The IPCC climate computer model does not incorporate the ENSO model. It does not include the ideal gas law. In short, the IPCC computer model is seriously flawed as witnessed by its predictions versus reality.
 
Nevada OKs new rates for rooftop solar

The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt the plan, which would reduce the amount NV Energy pays customers for excess energy their solar panels produce, and change the flat service rate for customers with solar panels. The changes would phase in over five years, starting Jan. 1.

  • Man-made aerosols are released as pollution from burning coal and diesel

Reducing our reliance on fossils fuels is seen as crucial in tackling the threat of global warming, but cutting pollution from burning them may actually cause the Earth to get hotter in some places.
