Any Suggestions On How To Find A Mentor?

8) The fact is...in most of the country there is not enough work to keep all the appraisers making a good living. This business has changed and declined. The high volume day for most appraisers are in the past.
Your words are real food for thought

bnmappraisal,

You raise a remarkable point. The difficulty in my own search for a mentor has been the ominous feeling that I have to get past the filter of being looked at as someone who is simply looking for something else to do outside of my own field of expertise. But then again, it wasn't far from the truth when I got started. It's taken awhile to actually see past my own filter of expectation, of looking for something else to do and dedicating a lot more time to researching and developing a vision for the ideal situation I want to work toward as an appraiser. Anyway, still working on it

Jin is someone I can see as trainable.

Go commercial Jin!

Watch your words NP. lol Lemme find that thread where Rachel was tangling with those who denigrate residential appraisal. Go hybrid is my memo to me, little res and throw in some large apartments for spice. :)

Go on BREA. Look up CR's with addresses that are business' (good luck won't be many) and call them. Anyone with a home address isn't going to take you on. Most CR's are at home addresses & working out of their spare bedroom. #1, you don't want to work in that environment because it will be a lot of "remote" and #2, they won't take you on nor train you properly.

These are some amazing insights...I had a guy, a CR appraiser I was able to reach at his home/office via a text messaging referral service he must pay for and he replied very upset, called me some names and said he would never hire 'someone like you'. The lesson here, if any, is that the windows of opportunity currently for trainee appraisers have iron security bars around them that are designed to be released from within using a medieval foot-to-rusty lever contraption born of the days of guilds and feudal lords in case of fire.... Is indentured servitude a viable option? Labor in exchange for experience hours in place of wages, i.e., 'value'

If you read the snip from the FTC, you don’t have to agree upon a price if you agree upon limiting supply...
This too...is food for thought, in an abstract sense. A little over my head though

More opportunities out there than meet the eye. I know three local CG's looking for either a trainee or to turn their business over to someone. Servitude levels negotiable. :)

You're making me hungry, watch me (go commercial!)...concur!

Any chance they are in the Greater Bay Area? Perhaps Santa Clara/Alameda Counties?
