Anyone getting side jobs?

I have been gone back to doing classic car and fine art appraisals. I have to go to Macon GA this week and appraise an art collection that will be donated to a local college. Nice trip and a $2500 fee and no comp check BS. Last month I appraised a Ferrari collection and got to take a Ferrari F40 for a spin.

I have been making some nice guitars again as well. Made a Flying V and just got an order for a Billy Gibbons Model.

Stopped doing marketing for my real estate appraisal business. I was going out twice a week taking to local banks and it was just too depressing. It looks to me that it will take 3 years to fix this mess from bank folks I talk to. I figured time was better spent in the wood shop.

I also help at theraputic riding center for no charge. We have 13 rescue horses and help handicaped kids learn to ride at no charge.

My wife is finsished with grad school and starts her new jo next week so it is nice to have her go to work for a change.

My main jobs now that real estate is a side job.

Oh man! Waaaayyyy too KEWL!!
I'll be passing though Macon, my old home town, on my way to the FL Panhandle for 4 days of vacation. Sounds like you have a great fun gig. I'm still doing what I do. Appraising, remodeling/flipping, and building. However, this month has been really good month.

Looking at options

Well, since my two best clients work for CTX.....and they are closing, time to seriously look at other options. Sad part is these clients are looking to go to a big company that they think will be safe. Going to Countrywide!!!?!?!?!?!!!! Said that their appraisers (Landsafe) will do comp searches, after all that time teaching them, back to the dark side they go. I have been Landsafe approved, just don't like them, and haven't done anything with them in years. Oh well.

Looking at government jobs. Think with the coming election, and the probable outcome, that government jobs are the way to go. I think that small business taxes will go up and things will become very unfriendly for us small folks.

Haven't done government work since 1994 but, steady income, benefits, paid time off, looks pretty good to me now. Wife would also appreciate me bringing in a decent amount of money now too....she is putting in way too much overtime.

I personally think that the business isn't changing that much, just too many skippies out there, losing too much business to them, and don't think Lenders and Politicians WANT a change. Just want less attention so they can go back to how things were.

I was thinking of taking a pottery class.
Haven't thrown a pot since college.
More of a hobby than a money maker though, since I never showed much talent for it. But at least I could have fun and get dirty.

I started developing and managing web sites a while back, which got me more into graphic design then I ever thought I would be. I love it. I look more forward to the design stuff then actually the web stuff.

Got another little side venture in the works too. Its fun trying to make a little something off of hobbies.

Started a part-time job this last February (25 hrs/wk) and since is is in the PM, works well with the small amount of appraisals I have been receiving.

May need to go full time soon though, if things don't pick up. The months of May and June were good for me (appraisal) but July has been really really slow.

I took a job as a greeter at the local sperm bank...I stand at the door and as everyone leaves I tell them thanks for coming....

My first quick read of that said you were a greaser at the sperm bank...

After a glorious week of fishing in Hayward, WI; the bait and liquor store biz looks mighty inviting.

I still have teaching USPAP to fall back on...if I need it. 37 hours in August and 37 hours in September coming up. Who needs extra work, I'm so busy I can't see straight right now.

Truth is, appraising is my side job..sort of. Working in the assessor's office full time and doing fee work as a side job...only affords me 3-5 a month, but it keeps me in touch with what is going on out there.

Thinking about getting on the FHA roster, but not ready to jump in yet as far as my education goes.
