or weak appraisals.

All the oversight over the real estate industry by our government and their agencies, including AF and AI, could not and did not prevent the greatest monetary disaster known in the history of mankind.[/QUOTE]

MAN...........Do I ever agree with that statement!

All of our troubles began when the government and AI bureaucrats started sticking their noses into the appraisal business.

One won't have an easy time on this forum arguing for lower standards.

We don't have to worry about doubling the standards. Nobody in their right mind would enter the residential side of this business now or in the foreseeable future.

Calvin, Does you tagline say something about wearing new underwear?

actually virtually all appraisers prior to 1991 were members of some professional society, NAMA, NAREA, AIREA, ASFMRA.... "Certification" was society driven and some states required they also have a brokers' license.

The percentage of appraisers that belonged to professional societies prior to 1990 was only slightly higher than today.

I won't do the homework but if you like, try and look up the total appraiser counts compiled by the ASC and compare those with circa 1990s professional members (including associates) from the the AI, ASA, NAIFA, SR/WA, and ASFMRA.

Anyone have a chance to read Leslie Sellers' letter to the membership telling them to be proud of their leadership even though they are suspended?

and yet.........there are still plenty of schools willing to part a fool from his money. The AI will be glad to offer up the classes and then allow you to be an associate member. With McKissock....all you get are the classes and a lifetime of emails. In NC you can still take the classes from the fat man, the bald man or a greedy man.

The ASC count was 114,144 on 07/07/2010. The renewals most not be doing quite so well.

Today....the count is 113,686. It will be a few more weeks until all the 06/30/2010 renewal figures get reported. Some have been already.

Bob, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe those numbers include licensed trainees/assistants.

The states should be required to supply the ASC with those numbers as well to report the "BIG PICTURE".

Only certified or licensed included on the roster.

The ASC does not have any authority over trainees. Trainees don't pay any fees to be on the ASC list nor could they if they wanted to.

FIRREA only required states to set up state appraisal boards and issue credentials for appraisers wishing to prepare FRT appraisals.

The National Registry is a database containing selected information about the Nation's State certified and licensed real estate appraisers. The National Registry does NOT contain information on ALL appraisers. It only contains information about appraisers who currently are, or have been, certified or licensed by a U.S. State, Territory or possession to perform appraisals in connection with Federally-related real estate transactions. Only State certified or licensed appraisers who are listed on this National Registry as having currently valid certifications or licenses are authorized under Federal law to perform appraisals in connection with federally related transactions. Note that expiration dates on actual certificates or licensing documents may differ from expiration dates listed in the National Registry. National Registry expiration dates specifically relate to the legal authority of certified or licensed appraisers to perform appraisals in connection with federally related transactions.

State appraiser regulatory agencies submit appraiser information to the ASC at least monthly. This information keeps the National Registry current. We accept appraiser information ONLY from these State agencies. No one else can submit information for inclusion in the National Registry. While we believe the information is generally reliable, we have not independently verified each item's accuracy. If you have a question about an item, we suggest that you contact the relevant State agency. Find State appraiser regulatory agencies contact information

I agree and wish there was a way to have a one-stop shop with ALL appraisers and trainees listed. I understand that ASC is not going to do that but wouldn't it be nice if Every state had the same system and method for describing license levels, the same terminology for different license levels and a consistent method for an on line data base of certified, licensed and trainee appraisers. While I am wishing...now about setting up the data base to kick out duplications (multi-state appraisers) and designate every individual as active or inactive.

It is not in the desired interest of the individual state appraisal boards to conform...it is too much fun to have 50+ states and territories re-invent the wheel and waste millions of dollars to do it their own special way.

Now that the AQB is setting standards for Trainees, maybe the registry systems will change.
