Phil has choice words about Start, and its implications. I want to remind wimpy appraisers that it's YOUR supervisors signature they need, nothing else. You get 100% of the liability and 40% of the fee while training your own cut rate competition. How can a firm be independent when they compete w their own so-called partners, aka minions.

Interesting information posted on FB (haven't seen it here, may have missed it).

The S.T.A.R.T. Program is a solution for training the next generation of appraisers. It is developed by a national consortium of industry experts to solve the challenge of declining numbers of appraisers entering the profession. Our objective is to develop a systematic recruitment, training, supporting, and certification program so trainees and new appraisers have the requisite knowledge and skills to complete appraisals.

"the National consortium for appraisal training"

Appraisals don't need, and can't be, trained.

You already know the bozos don't know that AppraisERS get the training, not the AppraisALS.

yup looks and sounds like more JT garbage.

Looks like the AI will lose money over this. Wasn't it the AI's main goal to be the folks who assure that appraisers and would be "mentors" have the AI's education? Almost makes you wonder if this "training" has been certified by the AQB, or if bunches of people will be wasting their time, to find out it doesn't count for anything in the end.

I am not hiring trainees until I can pay staff appraisers at least $80k + benefits after they are certified 3-5 years and have a office for them to work in. The expectation would be that they can handle 260 appraisals per year.

Training future staff, giving them advancement opportunities, and building a business that has value is worth doing. Training appraisers that leave after they get certified or working as a "supervisor" for a AMC is a waste of time.

Agreed, and this should be the mindset for anyone interested in a "Trainee" hiring; You will not get a "College Graduate" to work for less. Any person who wastes their money on Training in Form Filling, needs to carefully consider becoming a "momback"; (IE:) person at the rear of a garbage truck calling to the driver, momback to get him/her closer to the pick up sight
PS: they get paid vaca & benee's

I just don't know how to make any $$ with a trainee anymore.

You cannot pay them and make money and it is a little too much for me to not at least give them crumbs. Only in the situation where someone needs specialized hours that otherwise has no avenue to get is it really fair to allow someone to co-appraise with you so they can get their commercial license.

There's no argument for it, though I presume they will say it protects by keeping fees lower to consumers...which we know is total BS since they can keep fees lower to consumers NOW by getting their paws out of the consumer paid fee
to keep for as AMC profit, the lenders can pay the appropriate management fee to the AMC for processing an order. (I bet if lenders had to pay for AMC service they'd keep it as lean as possible, which is why AMC's avoid cost plus like the plague)

I am for raising fees. I think an average fee should be around $800. I don't see how you read that into it.

#2. Joans AMC..primarily Axis making the push. #3. has Corelogic written all over it

Oh gosh...always looking for a conspiracy. I haven't even seen this . So I cannot really comment. One of the CRN committees has been working on this and has not been vetted by the Executive Comittee. ONce it has been reviewed and approved I will get back to you.

Nobody needs to worry about declining number of appraisers if the average appraisal fee is $800. Number of appraisers needs to decline until that happens.

It would be better for the fees to get there before there is a real shortage so that customers don't have to deal with 1 month turn times by the time market based fees get there.
