I've been asked to do this for 2 clients this year. One will pay for it, one won't. Are ya'll doing these???

California runs your fingerprints through the data base as part of your initial licensing. So is that a "yes".

No that is absolutely not a "yes." You did that for the state, not a client. I will not do it for a client. I will not give them my social security number or the 3 digit verification number on the back of my credit card. I will not give them my checking account number or the PIN to my bank card. I will not give them a key to my front door.

The NC Appraisal Board has checked my background. If that is not good enough for them, they can find another appraiser.

We should run back ground checks on the clients and their ability to pay not the other way around. :rof:

No thanks...not for me.

I've had more FBI and local police background checks than you can shake a stick at...it's a requirement for certain international adoptions.

But I won't do it for a business client.

There are mixed messages that are being sent by such requests. One implies that client is making sure that they don't hire criminals. The other is that they've been careless in selecting appraisers in the past. I believe appraisers can be measured against who they associate with, and if it is the latter case, I recommending running in the opposite direction, especially in the current environment.

I have never seen or heard about background checks being required by lenders. Geez, where have I been right? Seems that style of requirement does not represent a good long term client. What do I know though, being a 3 year old newbie still working for my mentor.

If you want a background check on me, you better send a w-2 and a signed employee offer.
