Best Disto Backup Tool

Carry in the truck Disto, wheel, 25' tape, 100' tape, use 18" clipboard and at times for a short distance my size 13 shoe which is just over 12" long. See no reason to limit my arsenal and use whatever is most appropriate for the particular job.

The best back up tool for a disto is probably a letter size copy of the tax sketch. It can be taped to the corners to use as a target when measuring and if the sun is too bright, the beam hits a tree leaf, or the measurements are 70 feet off on one side, one can then rely on the tax card as a backup. A tape would be more credible of course, but we all know that the disto cult abhors the use of such crude and archaic devices. regardless of their accuracy.

I carry a disto as well as an old disto in the trunk of my car along with a 50' tape a 100' tape and two measuring wheels one large one small. I am prepared for any situation.

Thank you all for your replies. I'll carry items so that I'll be prepared for any situation, too.
Bobby ... Disto cult ...you're right about that :)

Bobby, where can I find the tax sketch? (silly question, I guess)

A tax sketch is available at many tax assessor’s offices, some have them online, some don’t have them at all, others require a trip. I was being facetious suggesting using one as the target for the disto. Copies of tax sketches have been abused by the corner cutters in the business, there have been more than a few horror stories posted about those who rely on them for accuracy.

:) I see.
I'm sure this has been addressed here (how much to rely on them), so I'll do a search.

i keep a digital copy of the auditor's sketch in my workfile and compare my measurements to it as i am measuring. having another point of reference is never a bad thing, and if something is significantly wrong with the sketch i can show the home owner while i am onsite.

I have a 100' tape and a wheel. As far as paper goes I use Total Mobil As I paperless.
