Interesting article on the Austins, history of Marin City and the redlining in the county.
It gives perspective why the Austins filed lawsuit.
So basically, they love Marin City but do not want appraisers to use comps in Marin City to appraise their home located in Marin City. Got it.

Umpire gets suspended, but he cannot be accused of being biased.

This case is like if you have two umpires. The one calls it a ball, one calls it a strike...obviously the one calling it a strike is racist against the batter regardless of where the ball was and the one that called it a ball is a great umpire. You would have some weird games with umpires afraid of calling strikes.

Idk. $350K seems like a huge renovation. That view is nice if they are standing on their deck. I just hope they didn't get carried away on renovations. I have no clue. I know $350K is a huge renovation. to that house. It could very well be an overimprovement for that Marin City market.

Many many times people should hire an appraiser on the front end before they do a $350K renovation.

Yep, the plaintiffs think Marin City is worth less because more blacks live there (I think its still majority white, just not as big of a majority) and for that reason it should be valued as if it were located somewhere else.

The two appraised values were so wide apart. Public doesn't understand this wide discrepancy and assume it's racially motivated.
It took almost a year before filing of the lawsuit. Did Austin and Miller have informal discussion regarding Austin's concerns? or Miller didn't bother to explain herself?

Just like you I was thinking of the view. Austin's house had good views. I love views. I give homes with views a premium.
I haven't look deeply into the case but from my "discovery", $995,000 seems to be in the low range (And how in the hell it came to exactly $995,000 and not $1,000,000?).

I had a hitch put on our new jeep this morning. Was listening to owner of shop when someone called in to upgrade their trailer. The owner told the assistant to tell them it will cost way more for us to do that upgrade in all the labor it will take than for them to sell that trailer and go buy one that has what they need. He told assistant to tell them. Hitch place has been in business for 59 years.

I was laughing at them a little when they told me they had been in business 59 years. Not great part of Memphis ( I didn't say that, didn't have to) I said I bet the location was way better 59 years ago. They started laughing. They said yep.

Graceland is just down the road a few miles on Elvis Presley Blvd. Elvis Presley enterprises has done major renovations near Graceland. Still working. A few miles can make a difference.

They make good money and busy as busy can be. Not a good location in my opinion. I watched them for about 2.5 hours. They have a crew and they work like Turks.

I'm little slow. Trying to see how this relate to the Austin's case.
