Wow....I did not know that. How sad for her.
Being defendent and knowing you're innocent in a lawsuit is very difficult and stressful. She may have wished to just settled the case earlier and spend more time with daughter and husband.

I read that on Mary Cummins Blogspot. She is a Latino appraiser familiar with the area. She has links to the latest TMZ Harvey Levin interview with the Tates. She is pretty fearless, IMO. She has done in depth research since this case went public, including the entire history of the neighborhood.

I'm curious why would TMZ be interested in Tate's case? They usually gossip about celebrities and make fun of them (not that I'm a regular watcher). There's nothing humorous about biased appraisals.

Who is Mary Cummins?

Because Harvey's tag line is "I'm a lawyer", just speculating. Probably their handlers trying to reach as big an audience as possible to get rid of appraisers is my guess.

Sounds like Tates & their lawyers had a better public relations team to get their views onto TMZ. Maybe Miller should have given a rebuttal response if TMZ was fair entertainment journalism.

Liza Cristol-Deman, a Bay Area attorney representing the Austins, said there are still six claims pending. The Austins have contended that the appraisal violated the Fair Housing Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the California Unruh Act, which provides protection from discrimination, and the Unfair Competition Law.

“We disagree with the judge’s decision on the claim for negligent misrepresentation, but we are committed to pursuing our core claims of housing discrimination,” she said. “These claims remain in play.”

Liza is relentless with six claims after judge dismissed the negligent misrepresentation case back on 8/2022. No wonder Miller settled. The legal fees would have killed her (and it did with her daughter and husband). :(

I bet the appraiser's lawyer (s) told them to settle. That can happen.
