The Nar intrusion into the appraisers' market will start slow with realtor valuation services for reos, equity loans, pre-bank foreclosures and other so-called low risk transactions where they can get their proverbial foot in the door without too much clamor. After all their avm can offer a much faster low cost valuation product that can be duplicated on the local realtor board level all across the country. And they control the database don't they?
Right now they have already testified before Congress as "the only authoritative voice on appraising". Big changes to the appraisal process are coming and the NAR has the power and the money to gain access to those in position to make the changes that they want.
Already you can join the winning team by being an accredited Nar appraiser and it will not be a big stretch in the future for appraisers to be able to obtain C.E. credit for NAR appraisal courses and who knows some day your appraisers' licenses and certifications will come from the NAR.
