Corn pone is a kinda dense cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet typically, goes quite well with collards or turnip salad. Some folks eat it with fish instead of hushpuppies.

My wife is from Kentucky and she makes a pone of corn bread in a cast iron skillet in the oven. I have heard her call it a pone of corn bread for years. I am from up north and had never heard that term before I met her.

Actually, I was asking any history buffs out there if they knew. I always though it originated from the Confederate soldiers smearing a corn paste and cooking it on their sabers.
