Disto E7500i Information And Opinions

I use the Disto E7500 It's my second You can always find something to bounce off or if not I use sticky note pads, stick them to the house and shoot that. I do more walking but the exercise is good for me. The accuracy is great, that's my main concern not how long it takes to measure.
I can shoot through bushes there are other nice features, the camera feature is one another is where I can shoot over a bookcase, if inside and get a correct measurement after 15 years of using a Disto is there anything else.

the more you use it the better you will get at it. i always chuckle when people post that they have nothing to target. i have yet to run into any situation where i cannot find a suitable target. sometimes i bounce off the house next door, sometimes a downspout, sometimes a window sill (the side), sometime i shoot one half of the house down to the chimney and then use the "+" function and measure down the other side and it tells me the total. there is always something to bounce off of, similar to how when i was being trained it was ingrained in me that there is no such thing as no comps - you just haven't look hard enough yet.

if you are going to buy a disto grab it from this site. they typically give between 10-20% discount off the published price, you just have to contact them.

since it is listed at the same price as amazon, retail, it will almost certainly be cheaper to get it from there.

he pretty much nailed it. i am a late convert to lasers but i have the exact unit you are talking about. i was a wheel measurer for many years but am so glad i am a laser bro now. and not everytime will you save time as it takes a little bit to get the hang of it and as was already said i never need a target. there is always something to bounce off of. actually one time i can remember using a splash block as a target when i needed it so theres one. and 2 good duracell batteries will last me at least 20 inspections at least. and the zoom/camera function is golden in bright sun but you have to be real still in super zoom mode but it works.

And I always chuckle when I see a report where the guy dinking around with the laser thinking he looks cool with his toy forgot to get the 4 foot difference between either side of the chimney and each corner...........................Yes, there is most always something to shoot off, all I said was it wasn't always expedient....................... by the time I get to the other end of the wall with the tape, I already have the measurement.........( the "+" function is between my ears........). I can't imagine how much time I would have wasted trying to hold the laser still enough and still be able to push the button to get that shot of the edge of the window sill. But to each their own.........

well good thing for you i am not that guy. my measuring device doesn't make or break my cool factor. your post reminds me of the people who love to tell me "they don't build 'em like this anymore" when i am inspecting an old house. they are right, they don't build things like that anymore, we have a building code to follow.

sorry you are not proficient at using a laser. maybe a tape is better for you after all. technology is not for everyone.

i'm curious - do you still type at the same speed as when you first started? probably not, because as you did it more you got better. same thing holds true for using any technology, laser measuring devices included. it's not hard to figure out a way to steady one and run the dot down the side of the house so you can watch it and follow. i started with a wheel, then tape, then disto. the disto is by far the fastest and most accurate device for measuring and once one is proficient at it they will see the benefits.

I use a laser and a tablet. I have a carry laser and a s910 on a tripod in the trunk. I love it when the owner says "the last appraiser just used a wheel and a clipboard".... guess who already looks more professional.

That being said, the s910 is pricey but worth its weight in gold when you need it. The d810 is also pricey but also worth its weight in gold.

get a nice laser... go for the d810 it is rechargeable and one charge will normally last 2-3 weeks or about 50-70 inspections.

if you have the money, go ahead and buy a tablet and a s910 on the tripod. Do it all at once with multiple monitors and within a month you will be knocking out inspections in minutes and reports in an hour or so. The money you spend on the equipment is much cheaper than the money you waste on paper, files, cabinets, etc.

If you use lithium batteries, they don't need to be replaced for a couple of months. There is nothing quicker than a tablet and disto. If you measure nothing but rectangle homes, a tape would be just as fast, but who gets those assignments anymore? The tablet gives you the GLA at the property and your pictures already loaded into the program when you get back to the office.

I used to use sticky notes until one really windy day. That was a comedy of errors. Now I carry a stationary target when needed. Prefer an eye scope on the Disto to pick up the red dot on an outbuilding eave for building height. Try not to look like you are kissing your Disto when measuring however. Nice battery icon shows five bars when fully charged, just carry a couple AA batteries in case. Also have the old Disto non eye scope clunker along as a weight and double back up. The plus function allows for interior length and width room measurements quickly while standing in the room middle.

IMHO, the E7500i is a fine instrument but it will turn out to not be the top seller for appraisers in 2018.
