Posting this in hopes others may find it useful. I have been using a Disto D2 for several years in conjunction with my Lufkin 100' tape. I have a very hard time seeing the red dot from the Disto when using it outside except in ideal conditions. Probably my vision has something to do with it. I ended up having to piggyback a green light spotter on my disto to help me focus in on where the red dot from the disto hitting the target in the distance. Not ideal, but it works. Long story short, I just purchased a Bosch Blaze GLM 165-25G laser measure which has a GREEN light vs a red light and is very much easier to see than the disto. I don't use the devises for any of the advanced features, just shooting a measurement.

The Bosch 400 with the camera lets you locate the dot easily (you have to adjust it at first) without looking down range -

Or just get a Disto with a 1-4x viewfinder like a Disto D810 touch, and then you don't need to be able to see the laser.

But yeah green is definitely more visible in daylight than red.

Red glasses help as well, though it seems counter-intuitive.

In a couple years, there will hundreds or thousands of Distos for sale on ebay and craigslist. Mine included. :)

I'll keep mine around even after the biz dies. Might need it for the next Covid pandemic to measure 6 feet.

Partial to the Disto with telescopic viewfinder and big white target. Makes it look like you are doing some precise technical work while staring into a metal block. Or, maybe just acting like a blockhead.

The Distos have gone down in quality, and the prices keep going up. After my last one died, I bought the same Bosch model T has, and I’m happy with it.

I tried that with a Disto years ago, not sure it was that same model, but I didn't find the screen very easy to see or use, I returned it.

love my bosch with the view red X screen. outside on a sunny day there is no way to see that red dot on a surface when i am measuring distance. the only problem i see is it's battery life seem short. i use rechargable batteries, but i have to loosen batteries when done to not have to recharge frequently.

I just got the Bosch so no battery life experience yet, but the Disto and the Bosch both take 2 AAA batteries and the battery life is not an issue at all with the Disto. Batteries seem to last for very long time and just keep spare set in my car. My camera has a rechargeable battery and battery time is horrible. I need a new camera with a wide-angle lens. Any suggestions?
