Most 9th graders cannot read at a 9th grade level. Ditto most home buyers.

To answer the question well it depends on 1st how many colleges offer Bachelor's Degrees on line.

In the U.S., there are 422 postsecondary degree-granting institutions that primarily offer online courses and programs, including bachelor's degrees. This number represents a significant portion of the 3,928 total institutions that offer some level of distance education.

OK, so that's more than enough to come up with enough to meet the needs of a bachelor2-4 year course curriculum geared towards our profession.

That would be me. I was the only one of my friends that went to college and gave serious consideration to dropping out after having to slog through the general education classes in my freshman/sophomore years that were required for each student. Considering the outsized cost of education, perhaps we would be better served by reducing those requirements and possibly honing in more on a student's major. When I graduated HS, there weren't a ton of opportunities without a college degree and it wasn't easy to get in with the trades. Now, there is a shortage of contractors around here and kids can make good money just out of high school, so a college degree isn't as important.

On a side note, I wonder if the education system bears at least a small portion of the blame for the political divisions in the U.S. We are taught critical thinking skills by adopting a position and arguing for it, rather than evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each position. Then again, it seems that performance in aptitude tests are getting progressively worse, so that is only one of many issues.

Heck no...I was trying to avoid Vietnam, wasn't a problem for you, right? And, my first thought was to be a gunsmith and machinist in the college at Trinidad, CO. The gunsmithing was taught by P. O. Ackley, renown gunsmith. But I couldn't get a draft exemption for that. So, college was in my future and my parents only said do whatever you can afford and we will try to help. Dad was disabled and had to quit his job and take disability. Income was short for the folks. Mom was a teacher's assistant

Actually, I wanted to be a meteorologist from 9th grade until I realized a degree would require out of state tuition I'd be hard pressed to afford. But the earth sciences were also appealing to me as well as Archaeology. But that wasn't a field with lots of opportunity. After 4 years of college I took the Army physical and failed... I could have gone to Trinidad.

I resemble that remark. It was pretty much pre ordained where I was going to college by my freshman high school year if not before. Dad took care of most of the paperwork and for all intents and purposes I was accepted my junior year pending graduation and passing the private entrance exam. But if not for scholarships there was no way I could have afforded where I went.
