I don't think it is a good idea to ever wear flip flops and seldom sandals when appraising. You are never sure where your stepping or on what you're stepping.

Cowabunga, dude!

Looks like Guy Fieri

I also make sure not to wear any outerwear that has a team or person (like a specific race car driver) on or about it - no need to whiz off some seller or refier because s/he doesn't like my favorite college team or NASCAR driver.
Nice. :) I too wouldn't dream of wearing my Earnhardt #3 hat to an inspection if I know the borrower is a Geoff Bodine fan. :icon_lol:

See Garretts post about Arkie Appraisers..

I try to look respectable, and businesslike. Jeans are usually fine, unless it's a high end home. I'll wear a button down shirt, and I like a pocket for my pencils. Forget about ties. :icon_lol:

CANative, all these court appearances, how many years are you looking at?

Its amazing how much traffic the annual dress thread gets.....

How about them comp checks???????

Good thought. Better add tires and oil to the discussion thread. :leeann2:

Lol, hilarious. So many great forum posts to this; we do have a great sense of humor regardless of popular opinion! I have been wearing kacky shorts, collard shirt (tucked in) and sandles for 7 years and have had only one complaint to a client of which is comedy in context since my client had a good laugh as well. Value came in much lower then the borrower had expected (thus the complaint) "appraiser was wearing a tie dye t shirt, baggy pants, and flip flops." I replied to the client "but I selected the finest tie dye T out of my vintage tie dye collection." Moral: You can be dressed in rags or riches, but if you can't produce a credible and well supported appraisal, it doesn't matter what you wear.
