Duel Sided Fireplace, UAD Count

Many of the ventless are built in. I'd guesstimate over 50% of installs in new construction and in retrofitting conventional fireplaces. They are 99% efficient without the added cost of venting. They are not allowed in all states from what I understand.

How safe are these ventless? I know that a CO detector would be required but how about the fumes

They have a built in low oxygen detector that shuts off the gas supply to the flame if the room O2 gets too low. If burning correctly there is no odor. They are illegal in some states since the by products of combustion aka exhaust are contained inside the living space. However, if burning correctly the only by products are Carbon Dioxide and Water Vapor.

I'm sure they have improved over the past few years, that and the ones I've been around may not have been working properly. Currently my fireplace is around the pit out back

okay, good to know, we have very few fireplaces in Florida!

I respect your comments a lot (:flowers:) and don't know what part of FL you're located in, but I definitely run into all kinds of fireplaces in homes (I'm in the Tampa Bay area)

I agree, there are very few fireplaces EVER USED! (per homeowners) but I run into a decent amount (gas, wood burning) And I agree, a dual sided FP is 1 FP on "whichever" form you use. just my opinion

...by the way, this had me cracking up!
"One fireplace with a split personality." Salut'

In our market, not unusual for 1 fireplace, on back wall of residence, 1 side inside/ 1 side outside/ 1 fireplace. no outhouse.

some homes built since late 90s`, in our market, don`t always have chimney , just a flue out the back wall.

The real question is what is the contributory value. The C students will say 1x. The B students will say 2x since it benefits 2 rooms. But the best answer is 2.5x. Why 2.5. Because it benefits 2 rooms with 1/2 the energy cost and effort.
