I never label a finished room located in the basement as a "bedroom"....
Never....
We don’t even have a basement. He is referring to the windows in our ground floor master and the 2 second story bedrooms. Most things I found online were referring to basement egress requirements

Sorry....

In my market basement bedrooms are common and very necessary due to many houses being only 1 or 2 bedrooms above grade, yet have legal bedrooms below grade. They are marketed and viewed as 4 bedroom homes. So I always label and take pictures of basement bedrooms.

I never want on my conscious that someone, especially a child, died from a fire because they couldn't egress from a bedroom because of a fire. They happen.

I completely get that and agree but my husband is a big guy and he could fit through the window..

You know I really understand what you said. I get Free CO/CO2 Detectors from my Fire Department. I was doing a lot of FHA Reverse mortgage work and have installed them for the elderly people who did not have any.

My City Gastonia gives free Detectors to qualified City Residents. https://www.cityofgastonia.com/smoke-detector-program.html

It's amazing I have made it to 66 and dad and Uncle Billy made it to 97 and 94 and through one World war 17 years old and one Korea 18 and now we all need a certain window size. LMAO

When I started many years ago I appraised a house that the owner had sold, carried part of the note, the buyer added on to the house and then went under. To avoid losing equity, the previous owner took the bank out and took the place back. He complained about the addition and hated it. The house had 5 bedrooms, 1 story ranch. Each bedroom before the addition was added had a door to the exterior. The old/new owner said that the original house burned and one occupant had died in the fire lacking an easy way out. - So when he built the house, every bedroom would have a ready exit to the outside. The new addition cut off one bedroom and he refused to use the room for a bedroom. I have often thought that if I built a house - an exit would be in every bedroom as a full door.
