Fight the Power!

Are you able to cite any source to give The Appraisal Foundation, the Appraiser Qualifications Board, or the Appraisal Standards Board jurisdiction over or the authority to regulate to organizations/firms mentioned in the post above?
Didn't write that the alphabet soup can regulate them. But allowing employees/principals to have positions on the boards while grant money flows is a bit much. And let's not pretend the positions don't matter to their businesses.

With respect to "independent appraisers" having a seat at the table, you imply there are none among the current trustees. How would you classify David Beard? Joe Calvanico? Me? (I'm mentioning only the trustees with terms extending into 2026)
Anyone can google the names and decide for themselves. And in all fairness they should look up all of the boards and google those names too. Beyond any of that, it shouldn't be a surprise that REVAA and national firms have positioned themselves to influence policy to their advantage. And it shouldn't surprise anyone that independent appraisers have a problem with that.

I'm just glad ncpac and the ncai and THE OTHER OUTSIDE groups killed the bill on certified appraisers in multiple states...

That stinks. I was going to get certified in multiple states on the coast (I've driven thru them several times going to Disney world and my uncle lives in fl so im competent) and get about 30 trainees as soon as they took away that rule.

O well.

Win some, lose some.

Ps pure sarcasm

When you have some time, you might want to spend a little time with the Standards of Conduct and Ethics for Persons Affiliated with The Appraisal Foundation. Take a look at Appendix C - Code Violation Inquiry Form (Line 1315) and Appendix D - Whistleblower Policy (Line 1338). If someone has knowledge of wrongdoing, report it.

How about be proactive? This profession has become a cesspool and it’s infected from the top on down. There needs to be a complete purge. If there are any honest, ethical and moral people at today’s meeting, then there should be fireworks. So we’ll see.

I suspect it will start with everyone congratulating themselves and then going about their business as though it’s business as usual. It’s not. This profession is a dumpster fire and we need leadership at these orgs who at the very least acknowledges that. And if they don’t have the constitution for that, then they need to resign.

I haven't accused anyone of criminal activity. Again, grant money flowing to entities with direct connections to people who sit on any of the boards is a bit much.

But let's put it all out there. I’ll issue a challenge: Post links to the money grants TAF/ASC/ASB/AQB awarded in the prior 36 months. It all should be public records but I can't find them. If none went to entities with direct connections to the boards I will formally apologize, donate $500 to a charity of your choice, and my last post ever on the forum will be the apology with the receipt attached. And I will do that because this industry has enough disinformation floating around, it doesn’t need any more from me.

Never questioned your ability or education. My question to you was how it would benefit My girlfriend Joan and her constituents and Compentence.

I'll dive in................... How would it help independent fee appraiser and public trust? Keep appraisal management company and competence in mind before you answer.

Just for glue. Have you heard of fastest and cheapest? Commingling of fees on truth in lending disclosures?

Okay, if you haven't then..................................I understand. Ignorance is bliss.

Put your big boy britches on and fight for public trust and independence for appraisers. No commingling of fees. No fastest and cheapest.

Fight for separation of fees and competency for public trust in the profession. I know you can't do much but you can do something.

You are well respected and in a position to have an impact. I know my girlfriend Joan is in that position also. I get frustrated.

Esther 4:14

14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Market structure is huge problem Sir.

Violations of the Code of Conduct do not necessarily involve criminal conduct. It could be a conflict of interest not being disclosed.

Nevertheless, this is a good challenge. I will do a little digging. Cannot speak for others, but there is not need for apologies. We all have opinions.

The first "grant" that comes to mind is not really a grant, but part of a settlement. The Appraisal Foundation, as part of their settlement with HUD, agreed to establish a $1.22 million scholarship fund, which will be utilized to cover the cost of aspiring appraisers to attend Practical Applications of Real Estate Appraisal (PAREA) programs. If not all of that has awarded, at least $1,112,000 has been. It has been paid to the Appraiser Development Initiative. ADI takes the scholarship applications and awards the scholarships.

The other one that comes to mind is from early 2023. The Appraisal Foundation Board of Trustees awarded the $500,000 Pathways to Success grant to the Appraisal Institute to assist the the development of the AI's Practical Application of Real Estate Appraisal Program.

There may be some others. I will have to review notes and minutes.

The ASC grants should be part of the public record, but TAF should also have records. To my knowledge TAF did not receive any ASC grants from 2020 - 2023. Will do my best to get the dollar amount and dates. The grants from the ASC during the past 36 months would be for work completed by the Appraiser Qualifications Board only. No grant money was solicited for the Appraisal Standards Board.

Must complete some actual appraisal work now, but will get back to this later.
