Many banks will not survive if forced to value sovereign debt at market prices

http://translate.google.com/transla...u-exposicion-a-la-deuda-soberana.html&act=url

The chairman of Deutsche Bank, Josef Ackermann, today highlighted another obstacle to resolving the debt crisis that crosses the euro zone. As stated, several European organizations would not survive in the case of being forced to value their portfolios of sovereign debt at market prices, assuming this would lead to losses.

[FONT=ARIAL,VERDANA,HELVETICA][SIZE=+7]It is funny how things happen in sequence. This weekend near where I live there is a huge four day flee market and gun show with over 100,000 attending. We went Friday. You can't imagine how many guns were for sale and I have never seen such prices. One out of 10 people was walking around with a rifle, pistol or shotgun they just purchased. I bought a double barrel 12 ga. The prices were out the roof but people were buying hunting rifles and shotguns.
This morning I decided I wanted another Marlin 22 rifle and went on line to the Marlin site. Every high caliber hunting rifle was out of stock. Only low caliber target rifles available.
Then this morning I read the above headline. Do you think these events could be related?

Poll illustrates California voters' anger

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/sep/05/nation/la-na-poll-economy-20110906

Nearly 3 in 4 say the country is on the wrong track, and nearly half favor slashing government spending — a potentially dismal finding for President Obama, who will unveil a jobs plan this week.

The survey results suggest that Republicans, even in deep-blue California, are winning the rhetorical war of words over how to frame the country's economic troubles, and how to get out of them. "The argument of 'We need to cut the size of government, we need to reduce the deficit' has won, even in California," said David Kanevsky, research director for American Viewpoint. With California unemployment mired at 12%, the electorate is clearly dissatisfied with the status quo.

California voters are beginning to see the light. Just give it another year; September 2012 polling should be telling. Spending reductions can only come at labor union jobs at the state level.

California leaders are killing jobs

http://www.sfexaminer.com/opinion/op-eds/2011/09/california-leaders-are-killing-jobs

California’s “jobs gap” with the rest of America jumped to a record high, according to new calculations.

The jobs gap is calculated by subtracting the national unemployment level from California’s. Of course, the major factor affecting California’s economy is national economic policy. What the jobs gap calculation does is filter out the “noise” of the performance of the national economy. What’s left is the effect of California policy on the state’s jobs.

As recently as 2006, the jobs gap was small — just 0.3 percentage points above the national average. Then it increased rapidly, until it reached a record level of 3 percentage points in 2011 (average for January to July).
