I have to switch to iPhone

Apparently the new iOS and MacOS UI overhaul is garbage. That's unfortunate; might hold off on upgrading my OS's.

It's only been a month since its official release. The major problems are with Intel Macs (which should not think about upgrading until version 26.1).

Grok recommends not to upgrade for another month, or version 26.1. . Going from verison 15 to 26 is a very big jump - and that in itself is an implicit warning.

Companies, especially large ones, are VERY SLOW to upgrade for this reason. Wells Fargo and other financial institutions were on Windows 7 from 2010 to nearly 2023 in some cases, before finally switching to Windows 11.

So, you think 1 month after official release of a major version? No, not the case.

I am still on version 15.7.1 (Sequoia). My Mac Studio keeps nagging me to upgrade to 26.0.1. I won't upgrade until 26.1 comes out. And then, I will check with AI to make sure it is relatively safe. I do development and have a ton of Linux (MacOS) packages I am dependent on. Hundreds, if not thousands.

Is this normal? I’ve never had an issue upgrading any android OS

Regarding cell phones, I think both Apple and Android use their updates to degrade battery life and make your phone all wonky....so you go out and get a new one.

Remember when you used to be able to swap out the battery of your cell phone when it started getting weak? How about those five gigabyte micro SD cards for storage? Both options gone.

Now...a couple years go by and your phone's full charge is not lasting a day, Google is nagging you that you're running out of space and need to purchase more.

I'm three generations back from the flagship Samsung Galaxy. The updates are making my phone all glitchy. This is all by design.

Well I asked Grok about this. I asked for a comparative analysis of upgrade reliability between Android, MacOS and Windows. MacOS came out on top.

iOS is the most reliable

You know I love me some Grok but that is a shocking statement considering what I've heard over the years wrt waiting a month or 2 from a new OS so Apple can get the bugs worked out vs Android owners salivating to get the Android OS the second it drops. My brief experience has been awful so far I believe I posted itt shortyly after using this phone it completely crashed and I had to reinstall everything maybe I got a lemon.

They're not, there's been class action lawsuits over this claim. Same with computers, they just don't have the battery issue (well, laptops). The reality is the OSs and their software are becoming more capable and require more processing power. In fact, Apple has all sorts of battery management tricks to extend battery life. This is going to become even more of a concern as they integration more on-device AI-capable features. Interestingly, the new iPhone air has better battery life than the larger pros - I would have assumed the opposite.

But yeah, I still wish batteries were removable and swappable.

Yes, they have been caught and fined. But in my opinion, they're still walking a fine line on what's legal and what's not in regards to their updates.

All these phones with their snapdragon processors, 3 lens cameras at 12 megapixels, full Amoled screens with no borders, are fully capable of lasting half a dozen years. And, they do.....but they don't work as fast or the battery only lasts a half day....technology hasn't advanced that much unless you're comparing your current phone to an old candybar Nokia, (which I still have and still works).

Oh, I once tried Samsung with Android. Yea, it looks great, but the apps were a mess. I went right back to the iPhone. And since I bought a Mac Studio M2 Ultra to replace my Windows 11 in 2022, I am married to the Apple Ecosystem. If you are into the Apple Ecosystem, that is another plus for iPhone.

Apple Silicon changed everything. However, now Windows is moving in that direction - unified memory, that is to say. So, maybe 5-8 years from now I will change again, but not too likely.

So, if you really like Android and Google stuff, I suppose that is not a bad way to go. All the elementary schools teaching how to use computers to 8 years olds seem to opt for Google Chrome.

You are doing appraisal. Someone who is more focused on photography, graphics, AI, and development might very well have a different opinion than someone like you.

But, not to forget, Grok, ChatGPT, and Claude are objective and matter-of-fact. And I concur with Grok's opinion, as do most other expert reviewers. But these reviews are full of generalizations, which means specific individuals with specific needs might be better off with something that is not recommended at all.
