Ideas on putting together a FHA CE Class

Don,

I have all of these in PDF format and have been reading line by line and taking many notes while trying to put together an outline. I was thinking about starting by going over the changes as of 01/1/2006 and concertrating on the Revised Appendix D and Mortgagee Letters 2005-34 and 2005-48. It seems to me that Appendix D is the nuts and bolts of FHA appraising. I would also like to spend time on the Performance And Sanction Matrix in 4150.2 in order to show that HUD/FHA will not put up with poor appraisals. This could be a avery good CE class is developed correctly.

I recently attended a 7 hour seminar put on by FHA at the Denver HOC. You might give them a call and see if you can get the handout. It covered everything that should be covered in your CE class.

I am also an instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools and have taught a 4 hour CE FHA class. We recently updated our course materials. I think it would be really intereting to have a field trip to an REO in the morning. Do the inspection...drive the comps. For the afternoon session, have the students do the appraisal report. Have one more session a few days later where you grade the appraisal report. Now that would be practical training and experience!

I agree with Mike G, get a copy of the hand out from your HOC for their seminar (I think the same one is used nationwide). Also contact the NAIFA national office, I think you can purchase their text book. Combine the best elements of the two, add the items you think are pertinent and you have a winner!

Mike & Jo Ann,

Those are some great ideas. I tossed the idea around about doing an inspection of a property too. I think that the first half of the day should be spent on what needs to be looked for and what HUD/FHA expects.

Also create a 4 hour course directed at Realtors and MBs and you might have a new calling as a CE instructor.

That's a very good idea, Rex.

Thanks!

New FHA Training around the nation:

That session might provide some ideas.

Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but....aren't there enough FHA courses out there?
