I get the point you're trying to make but you do realize there is ZERO benefit to posting on this forum under your real name? Especially if you frequent the Watercooler.

Professionals are taken down by social media posts at an ever increasing rate and we're no different. A seemingly benign comment today or 10 years ago can be used against you for any number of reasons tomorrow.

As soon as anonymity of username was allowed, I changed mine and suggest everyone do the same

I agree with you. Its an unlevel playing field. The steady hands posting under their actual names vs. the screen pukers with nothing to lose.

No my guess is the block is generated by users ISP ( Example no matter what names I use or have used will be blocked on new or existing threads. The history may never be gone.

I like the new ignore option, it has the effect of keeping a windshield clear of debris. If you’re entering a building and there are protesters present, you shouldn’t have to see them, their signs or their message, let them take it to a place where if people wish to see it, they can do so without disrupting others. The ones causing the disturbance are only a handful and the forum doesn’t exist for them to have a playground/blog to be forced on others.

I am arguing with fake people and am the only one with skin in the game. Unnamed people can puke out whatever they want. Perhaps that is part of the soluation. Want to post on here, be verified and do it under your real name. It would cool things off real quick!

That is true. But some of us old fashioned types value our privacy and don't want our identities plastered all over the internet just for that very reason. That was one of the great things about the "old Internet" - its very anonymity that has largely been lost in an orgy of mirror-gazing "mental onanism" . Sadly, anonymity also allows what Jordan Peterson calls the "Satanic Trolls" to harass people and behave in an anti-social manner that would get them fired - or punched in the face - in real life. You might call it the "Revenge of the Losers".

Yes, you can change your name. Your posting history remains, but the old posts will appear under the new name. There is one member around here (whom I have blocked) who has changed his name from his real name to something esoteric. Now you have to search his new name to see his old posts, for example.

I have nearly 40 members on "Ignore". Most because of offensive leftist political rants, a few for plain rudeness, and one for being an anti-semite. Ignored members will still be able to see your posts and reply to them, but you won't see anything they post. In practice, once they realize that you will never "engage" with them (because you don't see their posts) they'll stop replying to your posts.

Tim, that is very, very true - however - posting under your real name also makes you an easier target for online - and real world - harrassment if you should happen to cross paths with a true Sociopath. Staying anonymous gives you a little extra protection in that regard.

OTH The Appraisal Topics are just that. Doesn't take long for a new member to realize how important those Topic's and threads are . This web Site IS the Premiere site for everything about RE Appraising.

Go over to Facebook Real Estate Appraiser Forum and spend about an hour or two over there. LOL You will quickly learn how our system of Trainee to Licensed Appraiser is very flawed.
