Rarely do I rely on area numbers. Of course they are of little use in Chicago where three properties on the same block might have three different area numbers...garbage in garbage out. Anyway its all the same codes as any other search engine: Type of house = J = split level, Age = A = 1-5 years, etc. Use a lot of the same fields in your searches? Create you own defualt search screen so you don't have to add closed date, exterior building type, etc when you start a new search.

Its not perfect of course but it appears all the other search engines are going away.

My first search is usually: area, 6 months back and the first 4 PIN #s to get my right in the hood. I expand from there as needed. :icon_idea:

Regarding searches in ConnectMLS.
I had a ConnectMLS class a few years ago and was taught a cool trick by the instructor during a break (go figure). You can create Search Templates in ConnectMLS. I created about five separate searches per property type (All Listing Status Types, Actives Only, Actives + Under Contract, Under Contract Only, and Closed) so that I would not have to pull down the menu for status on every search (just click the template). Also, prior to saving the template, I would click on the "add/remove fields" and add everything I use for 99% of my searches. You can also arrange the order you want to view the fields. When you have the search the way you want, click on "Save Search". Next you would name the search - such as "01 - Detached Closed" or "02 - Condos Active". Leave steps 2 and 3 blank. They are for Realtors setting up prospect searches for clients. Click Save and now when you click on the Search tab, your search templates will be on the right. Just click the template and no more need for ever having to click the add/remove field except for rare circumstances. I use the prospecting searches for clients, so I like my template names to start with a number so they will appear at the top. Hope this helps.....

Also, some brokers have started to scan the Real Property Disclosure Report, Radon Report, Lead Based Paint, etc. into ConnectMLS. It is under Additional Information in the listing. There is also a Plat Map in there which is very nice for the subject and the comparables site dimensions. Even if the subject has not been listed, you can enter the address and pull up the plat map.

What I don't like about ConnectMLS is that it has to pop up dialog boxes for many of the choices. Realtors may show houses in their usual areas so they get to memorize the area numbers for example. But I have to use the darn pop up box and scroll through it, then check the choice, then close the box. Then do that for other choices too. Just takes a lot of time as compared to a 'blank screen' type of program like Lightning2000 where you can start from scratch and type all of the criteria in maybe 10 seconds.

Pat,

You can set up a template within search which includes a field for "city", then just type in each city name. The more I use Connect the more I like it.

Templates are the only way to go for ConnectMLS,like many have said before, the more you use it the more comfortable it becomes,

Firefox 3

I use Firefox as my main browser (I hate IE). Well today I downloaded the newest version, "Firefox 3", and now the rubber band search feature does not work (still works with IE)....is anyone else having this problem?

two weeks ago MLS Connect changed the map function to Microsoft Maps, send an e mail to MLS Connect they may have a work around, for a while there the Microsoft Maps were not resetting, I sent them an email and it was corrected, an MLS Connect issue , not a user issue, this may also be a MLS Connect issue

I have sent a message to the ConnectMLS folks. Hopefully they will solve the problem and not give me their typical bs response of "this website is designed for IE, so please use IE ONLY when using our website."

Am I blind, stupid or both!

Have been using connectMLS for a couple of months and really like it. (Recovering PC Access user)

But where did the listing history info go???!!!

They just rolled out version 3.0 today. According to the message board:

Following are issues that have been reported by users following this mornings upgrade to connectMLS version 3.0. Most, if not all, will be fixed by tomorrow morning:

Additional Information: Uploaded forms not displaying. This is due to a functionality change but a migration plan to fix the forms is being worked on. Work around for Listing Agents: Click My Listings/Transactions link on the My MLS tab. Click Listing Number, click Document tab, click the security lock icon and set form(s) to Realtor or Client.

800x600 screen resolution cuts off top right corner of connectMLS screen (will not be able to view shortcut icons, Reverse Prospecting link, etc.). Work around - right click on your desktop, select Properties, select Settings tab, increase resolution to 1024x768

Detail Reports: Field labels now bold, field data not bold

Realtor-Appraisers: Listing & Property History link no longer displaying

Market Activity Monitor - Filter for Property Types and Areas temporarily disabled as this was part of the cause of this morning's outages

Tax links - some counties are not displaying tax links either as a hyperlink from the Parcel ID number or under Additional Info (Cook, Kane & Lake seem OK)

Additional Info - Open House/Tours link not displaying

Previously Created Custom Reports - Field Name and Field Order issues

Entering multiple area numbers separated with a comma and a space will give an Invalid Area message. Work around: Remove the space and separate area numbers ONLY with a comma

This list will be updated as necessary.

Area Search Maps - Not displaying correctly. Work around: use ALL Areas for finding area numbers for cities/towns - FIXED

Hope they fix the property listing history and link to plat maps soon.
