"Inflation is coming down"

Math, reading, writing, playing outside, and developing social skills. We don't want elementary school kids sitting in front of computers.

The reality is that most bright students have to set through 7 hours of class everyday listening to boring teachers and and putting up with crap. Evenings: Sports, Lessons (e.g. Music) and Homework. Weekends: Sports, more Lessons and Homework. Interspersed: Chores, eating, doing things with the family, getting into trouble, getting scolded, having to put up with endless nothing. Now if you like to socialize, yes there are the classmates and so on. But most are boring as ****. If you have good books to read, you have a way out. Cellphones mostly an addiction. Computers, yes another way out.

Outside is traffic, drugs, homeless, crime, polluted parks, more crime and poisoned forests.

And bad air almost everywhere.

Don't forget the polluted food and poisoned articles everywhere.

Tip of the iceberg.

That is ca. 2005-25.

Computers are just tools. Young students should be expose and familiar with computers.
Schools use Chrome because they're cheaper for their budgets so we children got them too.
However, I got them Apple computers because they can do much more. Given the choice they go to their Apple products.
And now when they work with employers, the companies use Chrome or other Window computers and my children effortlessly use them.

My daughter has used technology in his wedding plans saving tens of thousands of dollars.
Instead of mailing wedding cards like I use to do, it's my text.
And internet has access to low prices for flowers, accessories, etc.
No need for wedding planner, there are apps that can do most everything.

Young students don't need "tools" in the usual sense of the word, - then need to learn. But you could certainly call computers "learning tools" - for students capable of handling them.

Well, to a certain extent. There are plenty of computers down in their price range. I would say the main reasons have to do with centralized administration and control over all aspects of the Chrome.

"The main reason elementary schools often use Chromebooks for students is due to several key advantages:

-Cost-Effectiveness: Chromebooks are generally less expensive than traditional laptops or tablets with similar capabilities. This makes it feasible for schools to provide one device per student, which is crucial for equitable access to technology.

- Simplicity and Management: Chromebooks run on Chrome OS, which is designed for ease of use and management. Schools can manage all devices from a central admin console, allowing them to control settings, install apps, and enforce security policies like internet filters across all devices easily.

-Security: Chrome OS is based on Google's security model, which includes automatic updates, sandboxing, and verified boot. This reduces the risk of malware and viruses, which is particularly beneficial in an environment where students might not be as cautious with online behavior.

-Integration with Google Suite: Many schools use Google Workspace for Education (formerly G Suite for Education), which includes tools like Google Docs, Sheets, and Classroom. Chromebooks integrate seamlessly with these tools, enhancing productivity and collaboration in educational settings.

-Durability: Chromebooks are often built to be more durable, which is necessary in the rough-and-tumble environment of an elementary school. They can withstand drops, spills, and other typical accidents.

-Quick Boot Times and Performance: Chromebooks boot up quickly and perform well for web-based tasks, which is what most educational software and resources are designed around. This minimizes downtime and keeps lessons moving forward.

-Offline Capabilities: Although primarily cloud-based, Chromebooks can work offline with certain applications, ensuring that learning can continue even without internet connectivity, which can be an issue in some schools.

-Battery Life: Chromebooks generally have good battery life, which means less interruption in class for charging and more flexibility in how and where they can be used.

-Automatic Updates: Software updates are automatic and do not require manual intervention, ensuring that all devices stay current without additional IT workload.

-Accessibility Features: Chrome OS includes built-in accessibility features that cater to students with various needs, promoting inclusivity in education.

While these factors make Chromebooks particularly appealing for elementary schools, the decision can also depend on existing school infrastructure, specific educational goals, and the availability of tech support. However, these benefits collectively explain why Chromebooks have become a standard choice for many schools looking to implement or expand their one-to-one device programs."

My daughter is the boss: She wants the girls to use what the school uses, so they can get better grades. She thinks differently than I do.

Generally that is true and will make it very difficult for people to find good paying jobs in the future. In fact, I would say the only way to get a good paying job in the future is to be able to ride the AI wave. -- And keep yourself on the surfboard as long as possible.

Is there something we should know?

Fernando must be Chinese. They always get the genders mixed up (there is only one gender in the Chinese language, in case you didn't know).

I have to say grades are not even reliable. Have to pay attention to the district and state testing scores to know where you kid is at.

In April of '20, inflation rate was 0.3%. In June of 22, the inflation rate was 9.1%. That's an increase of ~ 30 times if my math is correct?
I used Fernando's way of inflation to increase the rent today (over $100).
One tenant accepted my reasoning.
The other called me out. I had to had to have another justification but at less increase. Her rent is already below market.

Grades are important but what is more important is people skills. Many students graduate and not prepare how the corporate world works.
Skills can be learned but working in a company, knowing office politics and who has the power will help one succeed.
