Irma Doesn't Look Good

119 mph winds key largo. .
Well the news reporters are the only ones left on the streets. MSNBC, weather channel, and just about all other stations have news reporters on the empty streets in Key Largo, Miami Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and the west coast - struggling against the wind, being beat back by the rain, pointing to wind blown trees and downed branches because of gusting - seemingly amazed that there are no other people or cars on the streets? In the same breath imploring people to STAY INSIDE and issuing dire warnings NOT go out into the streets under any circumstances.

Glad to hear from you, Tom. BE SAFE!

Any word from JGrant? I believe she's a west coaster.

Stay safe everyone.

Glad to hear from you Tom, Iwas concerned all night. Don't try and out brave this storm. Go, if there is shelter you can get to.
and Glad Bm made it out.

How about MAI Jacobs? He was going to hunker down in Boward (sp?) County?

Water gone up 5.5 feet in one hour in Naples.

Report Floridians!

On radar, it scares the hell out of me! I hope they have it super enhanced or something.

Like people on kidney dialysis are in trouble. My dad is on dialysis and he don't have a generator. He is TN though.

Lots of folks I know in SW Fl report Miami/Dade overall did well save the power. Downtown had a storm surge and 2 building cranes went down. Lee County/Estero/Naples people tell me they are all fine with the exception of power losses. Don't know if their storm surges have ended yet but Naples Mayor says, yes .

Mobile homes did poorly as expected but this Hurricane was/ is not catastrophic as predicted. And older building in disrepair or with deferred maintenance wouldn't fair well anyway even with a bad tropical storm.

Hurricanes by nature tend to leave a lot of foliage messes behind.
But I'll tell ya these reporters have spent most of their time in wild drama queening for a news Emmy trying to out do each other. Jumping up and down in the rain, owing and ewing about wind about downed palm trees and street signs, some flapping awnings and pointing out the devastation of a few broken windows in a hotel.

Naples has had 4 feet of storm surge thus far and they are now claiming that the predicted 10-15 feet might have been a predictive bleep or that the measurement tools may have failed. Naples has been spared, flooding and minimal structural damage. Which means good news for folks further up the coast. Yay.

Because of the dire predictions about how catastrophic and horrific it was going to be I get they are a tad embarrassed now. My impression is that they are kinda disappointed that it wasn't worse. For them - based upon their anticipation it must be terribly anti climatic. By tomorrow, they will have moved on, nothing to see here.
