Irma Doesn't Look Good

This one is a monster. Get out of there...you need a vacation anyway.

What amuses me...is that in light of all the speculation and drama on TV and in the streets...only the Hurricane knows exactly where its going to go. :)

Clients are asking for inspection up dates where none have yet to be made. I don't think they watch national news - or realize the entire state is in emergency status. lol. Gas lines anywhere in the state - north to south Fl are lengthy - some stations are already out of gas and I know for a fact that due to Houstons problems gas is going to be very scarce. I have absolutely no intentions of using what gas I have for inspections unless I know I can get more.

looks fairly likely to swing northeast and miss Florida entirely? Hope that's the outcome
Could, there are a lot of models but most are saying up the Florida coast on the Atlantic side, and if it maintains, it still will have much large storm surge along the coast. Matthew was very possibly the model except Irma is stronger.

I cancelled my appts for today thru Fri

Rented a car. Going to keep an eye on the track through tonight and make a decision probably tomorrow morning as to evac or not. Wife and I are leaning toward "better safe than sorry" and heading northwest - possibly Alabama or TN. Not sure yet.

I've updated clients that I'm out of the office either way (especially since there's a good chance we're going someplace else) until after the storm
The last Category 5 storm to hit the United States was Hurricane Andrew in 1992. An estimated 250,000 were left homeless and the storm caused more than $20 billion in damage in the Bahamas, Florida and Louisiana. Fifty-five people were killed.

The problem at that time was that people waited until the last minute thinking they would wait it out to see where it make landfall, then couldn't get out when they tried. I had friends that fled as far as the Carolinas and couldn't find lodging. We who stayed went a month without electricity or water. The problem with leaving during the hit is that upon returning (not many can afford to stay way from "home" too long) things are such a mess.
