Is Anyone Slowing Down?

Business is slow now. Must be increase in rates. Hope it's not harbinger to come. I don't want to lower my fees.

I spent 27 years doing as many as I could cram into a month. That rarely exceeded 30 just because of time constraints. Now, my body is reminding me I am 62 years old, and 12-14 hour days are no longer an option. I do one a day. No more, no less. With travel in my one county that makes for an 8-9 hour day and I'm fine with that. I like to think I do a good job, and not having to defend a review in about 20 years pretty well backs that up. There is no point in working myself to death so my kids can have a new car after their cruise when I die.

I'm a year older than you and I remember the days of just working like a maniac...
In those days each report took less time to complete than today...

Bunch of kids....LOL. Back in the 90s I would work 18 hours a day. Many nights didn't get home until 2 or 3 in the morning. Now I'm lucky if I can stay awake for 8 hours at a time. Probably time for my nap now.
3 a week is fine with me. I really try hard to work only 4 days a week.

I'm 2 or 3 a week, but sometimes I spend 16 hours or more on 1 so I'm still full time. Lol

Back years ago before all the changes, I could do 1 a day. In the mid 1980,s, they were one or two pages, hand written on SFR. The lender was fine with that. I only worked for one lender back then.

After spending over 25 years in this business working everyday, now I like to do 2 or 3 appraisals a week so I choose my orders with custom fees. That's my ideal. I can't imagine working one appraisal a day anymore. Seven years ago I could do as many as 2 a day. Today, with UAD and so many stips, I can't do the volume as before. If I was charging $300 an appraisal, I would be busy. Since I charge much more, I notice when orders slow them. It's slower now than before but I think it's the holidays.

In retirement and considering the kind I do, 1 per week suffices unless it is really boring outside.

still lots of work but i am slowing down, getting closer to normal.

I ready for it to slow down...will be spending about a month recovering from hip replacement surgery.
